John B | | I didn't see this in the archives, so it might be new to some people. This is Seth Godin's free ebook on building websites that work.

He starts with the premise..."just about everything you think you know about websites is wrong."
Any thought or comments on his ideas?

Monica Ricci | | I am not familiar with this particular guidebook, but in general, my husband and I both love Seth Godin's writing. Love his blog too.

Wendy McClelland | | This is a great little e-book with tons of free bonuses included in it. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to get more out of their internet marketing.
For those of you wanting to build your business, here's an idea:
Offer this free e-book to your website visitors and newsletter subscribers. This will build your data base and help you become a "trusted expert" people will be willing to buy from later.
This book is available as a free giveaway and it's encouraged.
PLUS - Seth is also encouraging people to write the sequel and if you submit ideas to him and he thinks they are valuable he will direct people to YOU! Now, Seth has had the #1 selling e-book online - so if he talks "people listen" and to have him recommend you could make you famous pretty quick!

John B | | Here are a few thoughts on the book:
-I always enjoy his writing style. It's always direct and to the point. He doesn't ramble or go off on long tangents. It's a great style to emulate. He also promotes his other books in a tactful and professional manner. Some authors can go overboard promoting their products on every page with distracting graphics and colors.
-You could imagine your website as a physical store. You wouldn't have doors leading to nowhere in a store, so no dead ends or missing links. Make otherwise boring results fun or new.
I liked this quote...."If you change your site all the time, you'll demolish any competitor who assumes she got it right the first time and is stuck." What are the odds of having an optimal site the first time out...slim to none.
As for the sequel, building trust would be a huge topic. Use Amazon style reader reviews for products. Third party reviews. Customer service rankings. Alot could be done.

This is one of the most useful topics around today.
Hiya, Ivo! I appreciate you.

Karri Flatla | | Speaking of websites ... has anyone here read Steve Krug's "Don't Make Me Think?" This is not free, but it is a fantastically valuable investment in the usability of your website. And you will laugh out loud too!

John Williams | | I've been reading Seth Godin's Big Red Fez while rebuilding my system after it became corrupted (anybody had their computer tell you there are files on a CD in an empty drive? Twilight Zone - here we come!) This will be a great addition to the library - one I know I read and re-read, thanks.Private Reply to John Williams |

Joni Garcia | | Kari, I am a marketing consultant specializing in websites and I swear by the "Don't Make Me Think" philosophy. Thanks for bringing it up. I highly recommend the book to anyone designing/building a website. In fact, it's probably the only book you need and it's an easy read. But if that's not enough, here's more good info:

As for Seth Godin, yes, I like his stuff, but I have a hard time getting past the fact that he takes other people's original ideas and markets them as his own without giving credit to the people whose shoulders he stands on. For example, his book "Unleashing the Ideavirus" was totally based on memetics, and he gave no credit to Richard Brodie, Susan Blackmore, or Richard Dawkins:

Lamar Morgan 954-603-7901 | | Since the work of Seth Godin seems to the topic of discussion here, does anyone have an opinion regarding his latest venture: Squidoo.com?
This concept of creating "lenses" is intriguing to me. If it weren't for the fact each lense is linked into a network, I think a lense would be nothing more than a blog. But, because it is linked into a network of sorts, all kinds of wonderful things "supposedly" can happen.
What do you folks think about this type of connecting? Does it seem more beneficial than Google Adwords? After all, Squidoo is free and could pay you for your participation. Do you see it as nothing more than marketing "hype" or a downright practical approach for making a connection with potential customers?
