Cathy Qazalbash | | 4 Ways To Build Website Traffic
Getting website traffic is one of the most challenging parts of running a web based business. Your website is like a bricks and mortar store and building targeted traffic to it is how you will get warm ready to buy customers, at a relatively cheap price. You can have a beautiful attractive store with products/services that are highly desirable but without a steady stream of quality visitors you cannot succeed.
In order to gain truly targeted visitors you need several ways to do it. Building traffic is your primary goal when you first make your website. Here are 4 ways to get highly interested and ready to buy visitors to your site and achieve your ultimate goal, selling your prod/service:
1. Search engines
2. Pay-Per-clicks & Google Adwords
3. Linking to related sites
4. Article distribution.
Submitting your site to the search engines will bring visitors who have been searching for your products or services to your website. They will be more willing to buy than those that you have reached by direct marketing (advertising) because they were specifically looking for your product/service.
Pay-Per-Click engines: The visitors that come to your site by this means will be highly targeted, because they have looked you up with a specific targeted keyword. This is a good relatively cheap way to build quality traffic to your site. Mass submission of 50+ keywords at low bidding pieces can achieve your purpose.
Linking to related sites is a free effective traffic builder. Be careful to be very sure that the sites you link to are related and not your competitors. They should not be offering the same product but complimentary ones. Avoid link farms and sites that have little or no traffic.
Distributing articles: This is a powerful way to bring very interested potential customers to your site. I have personally seen very good results with this form of promotion. Within a month of submitting my info article with my small bio, I saw a significant rise in traffic to my websites and even a couple of clients. Never underestimate the power of info articles. People love information and will visit your site with a good mindset.
These exact same methods have helped me to build up my website traffic and get warm ready to buy visitors. Because your visitors are so targeted you will begin to see sales with relatively little traffic, and build your website into a high converting store front.
Diversifying your traffic building techniques will ensure you have the maximum chances of getting the warm ready to buy customers you need for your successful business.

Tracey Paradiso | | Thank you, Cathy. The one way I've had success in generating traffic is by sending out regular articles on behalf of clients.
Quick PR tip: Get yourself on a schedule with news releases - at least one a month - to help you generate an online presence. It won't happen overnight, but over time when people enter your area of expertise or your name into a search engine, you'll be amazed at the amount of links that pop up.
I'm very curious about search engines, Cathy. If I've been advised correctly, I understand it takes two months for a website to be acknowledged by a search engine -- and if you make even one small change to the home page, the two month process starts all over again. Is that true?
Two, I've been told that search engines "read" web pages from left to right in columns, so your first column of copy should be chock-full of key words. Is that so?
I welcome any other tips on what to me is a perplexing topic.
Best always, TraceyPrivate Reply to Tracey Paradiso |

Bill Dugan | | Hi Tracey,
No expert here, but I have had some success getting listed with Google by taking advantage of the Google Site Map program. Google spidered my website within 24 hours of submitting a "Google Site Map".
You can get the Google info first-hand here:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login
I installed a free script on my website and followed their instructions to create the site map (relatively painless). You can find the script and instructions here:
http://enarion.net/google/phpsitemapng/
I only check on this discussion board a couple of times a week, but if you have any questions about how to use these resources, I would do my best to answer.

Steven Boaze | | Just a quick note...
I'll agree with Bill's recommendation about utilizing Google Site Maps.
Also if you want to get into Yahoo quicker, setup a free Yahoo account, and setup a profile with all your site links. Yahoo spiders itself and will index your site(S) quicker than submitting.

Cathy Qazalbash | | Hi Tracy,
I have found that once you are indexed by the engines they do not put you back to square one when you change content on your main page.
For a long time search engines were a deep mystery to me too. However over the years I have made friends with some. I find if you submit on a regular basis you do rise up. I have obtained a #1 position with yahoo but google has always been a problem. The person who helped me the most to unravel the mystery is Ken Evoy. His formular is simple. Optimized content! Visitors love it and so do search engines. Yahoo and Alta vista in particular.
Make your 1st paragraph your best because many engines only read the 1st paragraph not column of your website. Do not overdo the keywords this will harm you.
You are right about the articles. This is the best and most effective piece of promotion I ever did, giving me lots more traffic and clients within a month of putting out my articles.
Steven put me straight on the meta tags. Thank you Steven and Bill for your wisdom on Google. I may yet get this troublesome engine in control.

Donna Evans | | Hi,
These are all great tips. You should also remember to promote your site off-line. I have worked with clients who think that just putting their website up should bring them lots of contacts, and that isn't necessarily so. I have a whole list of ways to promote off-line and will try and get it posted later today. But wherever you have your business name and phone number, include your website address! I have one client that does not even put his website address in his ads - that is very frustrating.

Bill Dugan | | Hello VicToria,
I have found an easier way to create the sitemap. This online tool will create the code for a Google Sitemap - but only for 10 page URLs -. Once you see the code, it is fairly easy to add more pages (although, it can be time consuming if you have lots of pages).
You will find the online tool here:
http://www.sawpit.net/home/index.php?module=pagemaster&PAGE_user_op=view_page&PAGE_id=52&MMN_position=82:82
Once you have created the sitemap, upload it to your root directory on the server.
Then register with Google Sitemaps and let them know that it is there.
http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login?sourceid=gsm&subid=us-et-aslgt
Doing it this way, you do NOT have to install any script on your server - which may overcome some of that caution.
I hope this helps.
