I currently use GetResponse.com but I'm not sure this is the best site to use as an autoresponder and list management tool (for sending newsletters/ezines) as I have a slight feeling that it may be blacklisted.
Of course, I am on a budget so don't want to spend a fortune on this tool.
Recommendations are highly appreciated.

Hi Nicole,
I use
1ShoppingCart which has unlimited auto responders and unlimited ad tracking
for $29 per month. The ad tracking feature pays for itself every month in
saved money on advertising campaigns because I can quickly identify and dump
advertising that isn't working.

I have used their full blown pro version for three years now and they are great to have as a partner in your business.

You can export failed lists and manage them very easily, as well as remove duplicates, etc.
It also handles unsubscribes and other related funtions.
And it's software, so you only buy it once.
You can schedule email campaigns, but not like a classic auto-responder setup.
It's about $100 or something.
Using it in conjunction with a quality auto-responder may be a viable option.
I use it for myself and my clients, but I've never really used autoresponders before.

A question. If folks are using an auto-responder does that mean they are sending out newsletters? And, if those newsletters are not getting through because of the way they are being delivered (via autoresponder), why continue to use them? Why not send the newsletter via RSS feed and provide a link to a free RSS newsreader like Pluck for those who may not have one? Is this really an issue about getting the information to your audience or is it moreso about being able to track your audience?

An auto responder is not usually used to send newsletters, it is used to send
people information automatically when they sign up for something. I use an
auto responder to send out my free e-books to site visitors who request them.
RSS wouldn't work well for this because it is really meant to give people a
stream of articles, not to deliver an e-book as a one time thing when people
sign up. Also, RSS is used by only a very small population online whereas
email is used by everyone online.

An autoresponder is NOT used to send out online newsletters that people subscribe to? I thought that is what Constant Contact was. What do you call what Constant Contact is?
How do you know RSS feeds are used by a very small number of folks who have online access? Is this some kind of marketing statistic? I would think given the growning popularity of blogging that RSS feeds would be increasing in popularity. After all, for those of us who do use RSS feeds, it means less spam problems.

Constant Contact is used to manage newsletter and email broadcasts, but has
no auto responder. An auto responder is used to send people info when they
fill out an online form. The info can be sent immediately or on a time
delayed basis. In some cases, like in
1ShoppingCart, a service can include both the auto responder and
broadcasting systems.
In 2004,
this
survey found that only 5% of people had used RSS. It may be a little
higher now, but it still doesn't reach the majority of people online.

Private Reply to Garland Coulson | Oct 27, 2005 8:26 am | | re: aweber | # | Chris Rempel | | What about aweber.com?
Everyone seems to use that.
The prices don't seem a whole lot different than 1ShoppingCart.
But that's at a first glance.
It looks like aweber might start adding up in a hurry with a larger list.
Private Reply to Chris Rempel | Oct 27, 2005 4:02 pm | | re: aweber | # | Chris Rempel | | Actually I looked into it, this is how aweber and 1shoppingcart compare in terms of pricing:
1ShoppingCart charges about $870.00 a month for a list over 10,000 leads to 1,000,000.
With aweber's system, you're on a sliding scale in increments of $9.95 per 10,000.
And they have a neat online calculator that you can use to tally costs.
So if you had a list of 100,000 people, aweber would cost you $109.50 per month.
If you had a list of anything over 10,000 emails (as far as I was told) with 1shoppingcart, it's going to cost $870.00/mth.
However, once your list reaches 870,000 or greater with aweber, then it would be cheaper to go with 1SC.
Please correct me if I'm wrong about this, as the actual 1SC users would know best.
However, this is what I like about 1SC:
-You can export/import lists easily (can't export with aweber). -It doubles as a shopping cart and affiliate program as well.
Just some observations....
-ChrisPrivate Reply to Chris Rempel | Oct 27, 2005 5:21 pm | | re: aweber | # | Garland Coulson | | Hi Chris,
My list isn't over 10,000 yet, so I haven't looked into that pricing.
One point to remember is that
1ShoppingCart is $29.95 per month for unlimited autoresponders, broadcasting
and ad tracking for up to 10,000 subscribers. The ad tracking feature alone
saves me more than $29.95 per month.
Aweber is ONLY autoresponder and broadcasting with NO ad tracking.
And of course I do use the shopping cart and affiliate management features (more
than $29.95 per month.

Jayant Private Reply to Jayant Patil | Nov 04, 2005 4:22 pm | | Ad Tracking | # | Garland Coulson | | Hi Nicole,
How it works is that you create an ad campaign within 1ShoppingCart, providing
the name of the campaign and the link to the landing page or web site you would
like people to go to when they click on the ad. The, 1ShoppingCart gives you a
tracking link to use in the ad instead of the original url.
1ShoppingCart will then track clickthroughs so you can tell which visitors
come from which ad campaign. If you are also using
1ShoppingCart for your autoresponders and shopping cart, it will also track
how many people from that campaign signed up and how many made a purchase and
how much. So you can tell how much money your campaign made.
This systems saves me 100s of dollars every month because I now know what
advertising works for me.

It has an ad-free autoresponder and a ad-tracking service besides some other services. However it does not have a shopping cart built in. The price is approx USD 27 per month.
There is a promotion going on currently where you get to try the system free for a month. In case any of you are interested, pls PM me (at mukesh65 at gmail dot com)and I will send you the ink. I do not want to give an affiliate link here, respecting the rules of this board.

It is ok to post an affiliate link in reply to someone's question or when you are telling us how you are doing something and your actual results.
We just want to keep from blatant advertising.
So go ahead and post the link if you want.

My name is Tony Rua, it's nice to meet you.
Along with an autoresponder, another good marketing resource for your business is SendOutCards. You can send highly personalized cards to your family, friends and clients through your computer for around $1 per card. They print it, stuff it, stamp it and mail it for you. It's a great little company. You just go online and pick a card and write your message. You can even download a picture to the card, or make a custom card especially for your business. Just go to www.sendoutcards.com and check it out. Let me know what you think.
