Lamar Morgan 954-603-7901 | | Which is better - CSM software such as Goldmine or ACT - or a website that handles CSM needs like SmartBusiness.com? I would really like some insight here as I am not sure which directiion is the better approach.

David Norcross | | Longtime ACT! user and beta tester. Switched to salesforce.com. No way would I go back to a non web based CRM. That is the way of the future and it provides total collaboration

Lamar Morgan 954-603-7901 | | David,
Since you are a longtime ACT user, explain to me why a web-based CSM program is better? I am not asking this question to be argumentative. I have neither tool. I am not biased one way or the other. No, I am totally ignorant. So, I need some guidance here.

David Norcross | | Hi Lamar
The main reason for my post centered completely around collaboration and being able to view your calendar off site or others having the ability to access your calendar and contacts if needed. ACT! has that ability, however, it is costly to achieve and not nearly as seemless as some of the online offerings out there.
I have however, softened my stance somewhat on the available offerings out there in comparison to salesforce. There is freecrm.com and salesboom who is making a big push. However, what you will find if you are simply looking for a means to manage your contacts, calendars and schedule reoccuring activities some of the CRM's just offer more then the small business or stand alone user needs. So with all of that being said one needs to examine needs first and then locate the CRM that fits those needs. While I spoke highly of salesforce in an earlier post what I have found that while it is a great application it is also loaded with capabilities that the indidual user or small business may not ever use.
To confuse matters that much more I could also throw another application into the mix to give you something else to think about and that is Time and Chaos. It is a desktop application that does a wonderful job of contact management, scheduling and has a great interface with word or open office for creating documents from templates. However, it falls short in email integration even though they have a great stand alone email client in express plus. Time and Chaos is $45 and there is a web based subscription that allows you to stay in sync with other users or other computers.
Hope I did not confuse you and hope that I answered your questions. Look at your needs and your budget and you can easily find a crm out there that will meet your requirements.
