This is a great topic for me. We recently moved to a new house and I have my own office for the first time. The room is a small bedroom that I am using for my office. I am working on organizing everything now so that I have a good system that works for me.

My biggest problem is that my computer person is my hubby and he likes to use this computer too and my desk every chance he gets. I have 4 children, ages 15, 11, 3, and 7 months. My 3 y/o will not leave my things alone. This room has no closet and this is a neverending problem. My older children think that they should find paper, pens, tape, scissors or whatever they need, whenever they, and it never seems to get returned or put back where they found it. So, what I did was to purchase a door knob with a lock and key. However, my hubby didn't have the proper tools to put this door knob in so for now, its open access for everyone.

I also have a desk that is L-Shaped with a hutch on one side and a filing cabinet that fits under one end. There are no drawers and everything is in the open. I wish when I had looked into office furniture, I had taken that into consideration. I do believe in the saying, "out of sight, out of mind".

I do have a small storage cabinet (no lock on it though) for office supplies and a printer cabinet for paper storage and two small 3-shelf bookshelves. I keep family paperwork separately in another filing cabinet. However, that is another problem I have with my family. They tend to put any and all paperwork, school papers, etc. in my office.

So, I am still working on some small details but its slowly coming around to where I am somewhat organized.
