What ONE business goal do you want to achieve this year?Views: 4699

Denise O'Berry
Dear Members --

The new year is a time when most of us will set some targets we want to achieve. One of the best ways to accomplish those goals are to share them with others. There are almost 1500 "others" on this network who would like to see you be successful.

So take a minute and post one goal for your business in this thread.

We'll periodically revisit this thread throughout the year to check in and see how you're doing. Who would like to start?

Best regards,

Denise O'Berry

Well, not to get too philosphical or anything, but here's my thought.

Ever since reading Robert Kiyosaki's book "Business School for People Who Like to Help People", and reflecting on Zig Ziglar's famous saying, "you can get whatever you what by helping enough other people to get whatever they want", I think my goal would be to help at least one person each month have a genuinely better life. That might be financially, it might be health wise, or just feeling better.

I don't know why I chose one per month. I guess 12 must be a good number. Isn't that the number of people Jesus worked with? :-)

Best wishes for a great new year to everyone.

Hi Denise,
I create a list of goals each year and post them next to my desk to keep on track! One of my major goals this year is to syndicate my column.

Looking forward to reading additional posts on this topic.

Wow, picking out just ONE business goal that I want to achieve his year is a toughy. I guess my biggest goal - the one that will make the biggest difference in my business, would be to make enough contacts, and get to know enough speakers, that Fastype is the first name that comes to mind for speaker support.

Well this question just jumped at me... I just finished my overall goals, ones for life and ones for this year and some of them were business related.

My number one goal is to advantage of new contacts... what I mean is to follow up and make something happen that will be beneficial for both... all to often because of lack of focus or life we do not jump on or take advantage of gifts that are put in front of us... mostly from others....

I want to be very focused on following through in 2006...

Hello Denise,

If I had to pick ONE goal it would be to gain more of a work/life balance. Often times, when owning a business, running a home etc., the balance between work and personal time is skewed. While on vacation each year I wonder why I don't take more time for myself and my family. This year I am working towards meeting that goal.

Wishing you all a successful and BALANCED 2006!

Well, if I only get one, then it would be to have one million people read my comic book this year. Free or not, it doesn't matter---just get one million people to read WANTED:HERO. That would be my goal.
That may seem like a lot, but it's not...
I only wanted to gain 60,000 people in traffic in a month as the goal for 2005, and I ended up having over 500,000 in a single month...so who knows---maybe this next goal can be done too!

My goal is to speak at events outside of my comfort zone. I conduct about 30 trade show seminars each year, but it's time to expand outside of that field.

There are some things I do consistently that I look forward to continuing this year, which I posted on my blog.

I have had time to re-evaluate my goal; I have written up all my set tasks for the day and realised I had set my self a goal that was to big at this time. So My ONE big business goal for 2006 is to get 1 new contact a day, and at least one product sale a day.

Thank you all for the chance to network with you.

Hi Denise,

Thanks for the thought-provoking question (it's challenging to get down to one but very helpful for prioritizing!) and for moderating this list!

My main goal for 2006 is to build my mailing list- to at least 5,000. I put a lot of time into my newsletters and I've received great feedback so I'm inspired to quadruple my list this year. I'm in the process of coming up with some "ethical bribes" to enroll people in the free newsletters, such as free ecourses and ebooks. I'm also expanding my joint ventures to offer more great free resources to those on my list.

All the best,
Larina

In some magazine I read words which still stays in my mind.
...To me, business isn't about wearing suits or pleasing stockholders. It's about being true to yourself, your ideas and focusing on the essentials...
So I'm going to work on this for myself.

Thanks for the updates and for those of you who have posted your ONE goal for the first time.

Remember that a goal should be specific and measurable in addition to being time activated. Making a general statement as a goal is often too overwhelming and can cause you to procrastinate and abandon the goal.

For example.

1. Get more publishers for my small business tips column -- http://www.deniseoberry.com/myob.html -- is a pretty general statement.

2. Syndicate my column to 10 more offline outlets and 25 more online outlets by June 30, 2006 -- is much more specific.

A specific goal is much more actionable than one that is general in nature. Tackling a general goal is kind of like trying to chew an entire elephant rather than taking one bite at a time.

If you need help setting up a step-by-step plan, take a look at my goal setting workbook -- http://www.whatspossible.com/goals.html

A very thought provoking thread to start. It certainly helps us to evaluate exactly what are the crucial goals to head towards.

My goal is to create a strong and lasting rapport with our client base. Using on-going care and consideration, always being accesible and treating every person as an individual and with the utmost respect and care.

This is just the start of my set goals but is vitally important to our business and for me as a person.

Hey Carol

A million friends is a large goal for sure but one well worth having in my opinion. Several years back I met John Kalench, before he died. He is the gentleman that wrote the book "Being The Best You Can Be In MLM". John told me his goal at the time was to have a million friends and I thought this was very interesting. It is important to note he already had millions in income. I don't think he ever made it to 1 million friends but he was well on his way and very loved by many before he left us.

If someone is famous they can have a million people who want to be their friends but what I am talking about is much different. Like John I want to meet a million people I can call a friend. Of course there are different levels of friendship and what I am talking about is at the basic level. For example I know you when I see or talk to you and vis versa, like we are doing now. So as long as you do not mind I can add one more to my list. :-)

I do not have a good way to track them all but I don't think we need to. All you need to track are the closer contacts and friends who are helping you in your current endeavor. Have a great day Carol

My main goal for the next quarter (2nd Q 2006) is to re-launch my two main sites (below) and do a coordinated, strategic PR campaign that is part of my overall marketing plan.

So far, I'm managing my action plans as I had hoped, although I'm going to speed up the process as soon as I return from three major national and international conferences I'm attending in late March, May and June. In between, I'll be re-launching the web sites and starting at least one new blog on my own domain. I've also stepped up my e-letter production and distribution.

I am a newbi to this board. Wasn't around when the thread started.

I want to work on shaping up my dream company... Acism! I want to shape Acism in a much different way from what I have seen around. I want to create true value... for my customers and for my people! I want to earn a lot of money... but each penny of it would be by adding value to others! I am looking forward to create a system that's fair and rewarding to the global community.

Pretty ambitious... I know! Especially given that I am starting afresh... without having inherited any grand money, and having a family to take care of! But God is capable of performing greater miracles, and I believe in His power!

I think the one business goal I want to achieve is 'complete restructuring.' It is scary out here in the public world. Internet Marketing in the banking world was safe. I knew what content to write - where to find it. I knew how to work with the websites, links - I knew it all. So, who in their right mind would expect a run on a bank and 70 of the US banks to go under? Anyhow, I've been working almost a year, and the thought of having to work into next year, just rebuilding and relearning is ....well...depressing.

This year I wanted my team to achieve over $250,000 in sales and we are there! We will actually be over the $250,000 mark by the end of December and I am so excited! And this does not count my sales of over $16,000 and with a slow year for me!
I am so proud of my team and what of what they have accomplished!

Last year we did $100,000, and the year before that half. We are doubling every year and it fills me up with excitement!
