Christie Scott-The Doctor's Coach
Hi,

I am a Life Coach for Doctors. I help doctors achive Extreme Success in their life and work relationships.

Better communiction with employees, coworkers, and family is important to the doctors I work with.

I want to write a press release and I have not been able to come up wwith anything interesting.

I would like to get quoted or interviewed and get exposure to a larger audience of doctors.

Do you have any ideas?

I am also looking for contacts in areas relating to doctors, such as medical journal editors or medical association staff.

Thanks a million,
Christie

Hi Christie,
Presumably, you already have the press release written.
Look over the material until something jumps out at you.
Grab that word or phrase and ... work it!

Christie --

Good for you for realizing that news releases are a good strategy for getting the word out about your business. Just remember that you can't just do it once and expect everyone to be pounding down your door. Also remember that it is part of your larger marketing plan which should contain many strategies / tactics.

That said, you might want to hop over to the Small Biz Boot Camp and take the PR Primer for Small Business Owners. It's free, but you'll have to register.

Another thing you can do is pick up one of my favorite books -- 6 Steps to Free Publicity -- at amazon.

Best regards,

Hi Christie:

Would you get more buzz if you coached a specific segment of the medical community? ER docs, pediatricians, cancer/chronic illness physicians, for example.

Or how about the "alternative doctors" such as acupuncture physicians and chiropractors?

It would make your market more easily findable and you could then be seen as the expert coach for that sub-group.

What is the biggest issue these doctors have, that you are able to help them with? That's most likely where your "news" is, and what a newspaper or journal is likely to report on.

Hi Christie,

I tried visiting your site www.extremesuccesscoaching.com and got a "501 Site Not Implemented" error so I checked out your blog.

First, I highly recommend that you visit http://www.PRWeb.com and review some of their past press releases. What captures your interest? What makes you want to take action? Now, use those ideas in your own press release.

I don't fully understand what you do for doctors, but here's my take on your press release.

As far as a hook is concerned, if doctors are your audience (clients) and medical writers are the people you want to have read and use your press release then going with something like this may work.

"Discover the #1 reason patients sue their doctors and how to avoid it!"

Man, with the price of Malpractice insurance and the rate of law suits, this just begs me (if I were a doctor) to read it.

Create a free report that explains what the reason is. And include a couple of other reasons too. Then tell the doctor reading the free report how to avoid that #1 reason.

If there is an easy way to avoid the reason (you doing whatever you do for the doctor) and a hard way to avoid it (the doctor doing it himself) tell him the hard way. Then explain that you can do it for him and make his life so....... much easier. Plug your services and/or products at the end of the free report.

You see... people who normally read and understand how to do something that may be difficult at best, that value their time and don't care to "do it themselves" will opt for paying someone else to do the hard work for them almost every time.

If what you do is just coach clients on ways to do things like what's in your report them make the report exceptionally detailed so the reader wants you to coach them on other things too.

Make the free report a PDF file with links to your web site (products or services). You can make a free PDF by creating a word doc or text file and then going here. (Up to 1Mb in size).

http://convert.neevia.com/

Now, center your press release around the free report. Give it to your doctor or a client and ask for their take on it. Get quotes, good ones of course, from them and use them in the press release.

Once the press release is done, wait 1 day and go back to re-read it to make sure it sounds right.

Remember, do not focus on you or your business in this type of press release. The media wants you to pay for advertising, not get it free in press releases.

Good luck,
Angela

P.S. I highly suggest you put up a squeeze page to get the first name and email address of any person getting the report. It's so common place now that if you really want what is being offered, you'll give up that little bit of info.

Describe in detail on the squeeze page what is in the report and how helpful it is and have a sign up form with first name and email address on the page. Use a company such as http://www.aweber.com for your mailing list host.

Here is an example of one of my squeeze pages - http://www.learningaboutcredit.com

Feel free to steal any idea from there that you like.

Christie,

The suggestions you are getting here are really good. I encourage you to follow-up on all you can. I would just like to add some suggestions:

1) If you want doctors as customers, target that market in small chucks - not large ones. Learn how to prospect three people simultaneously via direct mail. (If you have Skype, give me a call. My Skype ID is lamar777. I will gladly tell you how that works.

2) Always test your marketing message for viability. To do that successfully and "by design" rather than happy accident, request my free Power Networking PDF by simply making an email request for it at CDMM.

3) There is a Ryze network devoted to press releases. Join it and use the press release links posted. All are free.

4) If you are writing a press release, a good headline is a must. But, how do you know if your headline is really any good? Good grammar is important. But, good grammar alone is not enough. Your headline not only has to make sense, it has to impact the reader. Otherwise, your entire effort may be ignored by those who could otherwise put your story in print and get it distributed to a wide audience. What you need to do is check your headline out with the "Headline Analyzer." This is a free tool available with Garland Coulson's Free Traffic Bar.

5) If you are going to the trouble to write press releases, you might as well do a little "citizen journalism" about your business, too. To learn more about what that is and how it works, visit GetLocalNews.com.

6) Speak your message out to your audience. Let the world know what you sould like as you give them a piece of your mind. Make yourself a free podcast at Odeo.com and post it to a website, blog or even your Ryze page using a link.

7) Would pictures help you in spreading your message? If so, go to Flickr to create a free photo blog. You can even upload slide shows.

8) Believe it or not, it is possible to take requests #5, #6, and #7 and showcase them on the same page. It's called a "lens." I think it is the easiest way to create a presence on the Net. And, just like to the sugestions listed, this one is also free. It even has a funny name - Squidoo. Want to see what I am talking about? Visit Power Networking, check out the FAQ and make a lens of your very own.

9) Not everything which can attract business is a matter of software or Internet access. Some things are so simple to do most people never even think of them. For example, a "pass along card." You can see what that looks like simply by visiting my Power Networking site and looking in the Flicker Photo Module.

10) Last but not least, here is a software/hardware combination that is hard to beat - Skype and MiniVox100. Welcome to the world of VOIP and portable speakphones. If you have a laptop that is Wi-Fi compliant, you should not be without these tools. It enables you to be connected to the cyberworld while you are out and about.

I hope you find these tools helpful. Good luck.
