Denise O'Berry | | Hello Tammy --
Welcome. Are you talking about starting a face-to-face networking group? Do you want it to be around a certain theme -- like all sales professionals or all small business owners -- or does it matter?
Tell us a little more...
Best regards,

Graeme Pascoe | | Hi Tammy,
I'm involved in starting a networking group here in Australia, having been in another one for some time.
There are a number of different flavours of networking clubs, most that I know of have a breakfast meeting weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending partly on the goals of the group. If your primary goal is generating business referrals maybe a weekly meeting will suit best. Some groups focus on business support (brainstorming each others business problems)or, similarly, have a business coaching focus where a business coach assists in a group situation where businesses can help each other to sharpen their skills. Business leads will be generated in any style of club, of course. Many clubs have only one spot for each business category so that people are not competing for leads within the club. If a business that may clash with another wants to join it is up to the affected member to decide whether there is a clash with their business. Once you have decided on your direction then you will need to decide whether this will be an income generator for you or a not for profit. You may want to print referral forms to track leads, showing how successful the club is. Some clubs track total dollars generated, although that can be misleading when a mortgage broker puts in a figure of $250,000 for a home loan deal and a florist puts in 6 leads worth $25 each. If you are interested I could send you our meeting agenda (as decided so far...we are still in the planning stages although we have been meeting for a short while). There is a lot more to it, of course. I would be glad to answer any further questions...it is a big subject.

Beverly Thackeray | | If you are looking for a face-to-face networking group, I recomend BNI. If there are no available chapters in your area for your business, they will help you start a new one. Here is their website: http://www.bni.com/

Richard Kuper | | If you are looking to create a virtual group, there's always yahoo groups and the like. Just be prepared to set it up as always moderate, to keep out the spam. You will probably also want to set it to approve any potential members. Richard --- R.L. KUPER, Inc. -- http://RLKI.com Business, Quality, and Information Management
