It's that time of year when you've got to plan your investments to save on some tax. You NO longer have to invest in the low yield opporunities like PPF, Infrastructure Bonds, etc. where the rate of return is just 6-7% p.a. (and taking inflation into account, just about 1%).
You can invest the blanket limit of Rs.1,00,000 in any tax saving scheme. Unit linked insurance plans offer some of the highest returns (Kotak has given returns in excess of 40% since April 2005)WITH 100% SAFETY (Your prinicipal with some interest is guaranteed, UNLIKE mutual funds). On top of that, you are also insured.
