Joyce Carvalho
Hi,

I am from a non legal background - hence request you to please provide me a clear picture of what is to be done in my situation below.

My sis in US has a site in Bangalore which was purchased 10 years back. Now she wants to get a General Power of Attorney done in my name.

- what is the procedure
- where does it get registered
- is a notary involved?
- how much does the entire process cost? Approx cost for getting it done (stamp paper, various fees etc)

Appreciate if you could provide any other information that would help me understand this entire procedure in a better way.

You could send me a mail at joyce1.carvalho2@gmail.com.

Thanks,
Joyce

Pankaj Saraf
You have to do the following :

1> Ask your sis to execute a power of attorney there is US.

2> Get it Notorised from Notary Public in US,

3> Get it endorsed from Indian embassy or cosulate in US,

After this, you can use this POA for selling property.

Would appreciate member reactions to a concept I've been propounding .... the time for Functional super-specialists, the ultimate CxO's to participate in the development of SME's on a time-sharing / organisational multiplexing model. I've been doing it myself for the last 3 years, as an 'Out Sourced CFO' and its been the most satisfying period of my career .... reactions ?

Hello everyone,

I currently reside in Connecticut, USA, but have traveled and completed several national and international projects (mostly Europe).

For the past 25 years, I became well-versed in both law and land use planning, with a concentration in real estate matters (mortgage documents, land assembly, fiscal impacts, master plans, site selections, zoning, appraisals, sales, eminent domain, leases, etc.).

I am also very proficient in sales and other type contracts; family law (divorces, wills, POA's); labor law (wrongful discharge); business plans/incorporations/LLC's; personal injuries; environmental issues; and tribal law compacts.

Although not as yet a full-fledged attorney (must take the bar exam), I have a wealth of education and skills in the above, and can assist you, or at least point you in the right direction.

Asha Anand
Hi all,

I'm Asha (non-legal background). I joined the network today.

I must confess that I'm ignorant of the legal laws that protect me. First, I feel legal laws are complex for me to understand. Second, I wish there was a crash course in legal laws for specific fields. For example, As a citizen of India, what are the legal laws that I need to consider if I have to start an NGO? ...

My purpose of joining this group is to seek legal advices or guidance whenever required. And also to educate myself about legal laws and privileges.

Thanks Vijay for having this network on Ryze.

Regards,
Asha

vinay singh
Hello everyone.

I am a soldier - I retired from the Indian Army in 2004, as a major general. I was trained at the NDA and IMA and later graduated as a telecom engineer. I live in Gurgaon.

My interests are adventure sports, writing and law, though I have no legal qualifications. I used to take part in the Himalayan Car rally in the early eighties and later organised many such events in the Army and in Delhi, especially the Womens' Car Rally and the Handicapped Rally. In my younger days I have written many short stories for the Illustrated Weekly, (when Khushwant Singh was the editor), Femina, Eves Weekly etc. Later I turned to professional writing, though I still sometimes write articles on travel. I have published three books, mainly concerning military history amd biographies of Indian military leaders.

My interest in law was born while in the Army, when I had to deal with several courts martial. I have also filed several cases in the Consumer Forums and State/National Commission, as well as one in the High Court. I have never enagaged a lawyer, and argue all my cases personally, includng the one before a High Court bench headed by the Chief Justice.

I think this is an excellent forum for exchanging views about legal problems not only by lawyers but laymen like me who have no law degrees.

I would welcome interaction. My email is vinay4299@gmail.com

Vinay Singh

John J. Maalouf
Hello Everyone:

I'm new to the group, my name is John Maalouf and I am Chairman of Maalouf Law Firm, I split my time between the firm's New York City and Hong Kong offices. I joined the group to discuss various matters dealing with the increase in global transactions and the dismantling of trade barriers. My areas practice are International Trade & Finance Law. For those of you with insomnia I include a summary of a few recent transactions at the end of this intro so that you will have a flavor of the type of law which we practice. Also, by way of background, the U.S. Lawyer Rankings for 2006 and 2007 have listed my firm as one of the "Top 10" in the Nation in the area of "International Trade & Finance". The link to the rankings is set forth below:

http://www.unitedstateslawyerrankings.com/2007internationaltradefinance.html

I look forward to intellectually stimulating conversations with everyone. As an initial question, what are your thoughts on the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and it's effect on U.S. IPO's?

Best regards,

John

My name is charuhasan and I have practiced law for 30 years. I have my own opinion about our legal system. I had been in the same college with Justice Maliamat who made several recommendations that have been rejected by all lawyers. I gave up law and became an actor in south Indian films. Now I am a little too old to practice law or act. But ask me questions on Criminal Law I may give an answer which may not be perfect but honest and truthful

The reason for joining this network was same as Rajesh's but now I find lot of useful information here.

I handle business development for a printing solutions company.

I also help my wife in her web solutions business. We offer Web Hosting, Design/Development, Domain name registrations services. Do let me know of any requirement.

There are lot of legal issues associated with the lousy ways domain name business is done in India. People/Companies lose their precious domains when service providers register domain in their own name and then vanish. I think I can provide advice on these issues.

deepika
Hi, this is Deepika. Though a good part of my working life has been about helping people find jobs, today I find myself exploring the training canvas besides the world of indian contemporary art and writing. Since I believe my work has to be form of expression for me, I have chosen to work independently throughout.

Am close to identifying experiential learning in an outdoor environment as my niche. I believe no human can 'train' another human per se ... he/she can only help facilitate a learning, hand holding the other to the answers which lie within ... and what better place to 'awaken' than the glorious outdoors?

Am on this network to educate myself since I'm ignorant of the legal laws and privileges that protect me. I shall simply attempt to read and absorb from here ... and will probably throw up questions as and when I feel a need to probe further.
