My name is Chris Horton and I own a small business called Horton Web Design in Lawrenceville, GA that designs websites for small businesses. I've been a member of Ryze for a couple months, but just today decided to actually put some effort into it. So I'm networking myself to some of the networks here that concentrate on small business. Not just to offer my services to Ryze members but to also help better myself and my business by bouncing around ideas and commentary. This looks like it's going to be a great learning experience and I hope that I can help push your business whenever I have the opportunity, as well as promote my website design services. So anyway, that's who I am and I guess that should get the ball rolling at least a little! Thanks for the chance to post!

Thanks for witing. And let me be clear that while I do want to promote my business (which is why we all joined in the first place), that was not the intention of my post. I'm just introducing myself and letting everyone know what I do just as 2/3 of you have when replying. I've been in business since 1997, so I'm not new to the business world by any stretch. Being scared of getting ripped off is a valid concern, but it's interesting that you say that considering that so many scams are claimed to originate from Nigeria which is where you're from. Is it hard to do business with people in the U.S.? As a business owner, we're normally inundated on a daily basis with emails from people claiming to be from Nigeria or Indonesia and without hesitaion we're subconsciously trained to delete them without even considering the content. Mainly because of the multiple consumer reports warning us about emails from Nigeria where businesses will send out product or merchandise and then the person does a chargeback and there's nothing that businesses can do. How does that affect you as a businessperson since you actually are from Nigeria? Have you seen any of this and has your business been affected as a result?

Hello,
I am happy to know that you are from India and smiling right now. I am actually from the south of Nigeria and in the pharmaceutical biz and writing for newspapers on the side because i like writing. I am happy to meet a Mahatma Ghandi decendant who thought us the great power in non violence. Take care and love.

Thanks Chris. It is true that alot of Nigerians are ruining the name of the country involving in scams and other undesirable things but the fact still remains that many especially US citizens fall victim because of their greed. If not, how can an individual tell you that he owns a property of the government and you are hooked and want to do a deal even in hush hush manner thinking that you have struck gold. I am a businessman who have also been inundated by scam mails emanating from the US and like you i don't read them instead delete them. mANY OF THE PROPOSALS I get regarding website design were from the US and when i probe them for details, they are always in a hurry to leave maybe thinking i am wasting their time.I sincerely think that greed which fosters scam is universal and not restricted to a locale.

I don't know that that's necessarily true. It IS true that most scams feed on 2 things, greed (as you said) or fear. So you're telling me that in Nigeria and India, you get scams FROM the US? That is so funny. In the US, we gt scams from India and Nigeria. And as a developer, it's not that we think you're wasting our time (can't speak for everyone obviously), but for me it's the concern that I might not get paid for my services. Because if there's ever a problem, I have no way to get my money. It's easier to just write it off and walk away. And since most developers have been swindeled like this before, they just put a guard up when we get site requests from anywhere internationally and especially from Nigeria or India because about 80% of the scams originate from that part of the world (or so they say). Of course, one of the reasons why we're here is to share insight and knowing why we get the responses that we do, not just regionally, but internationally.

And thanks SO much for sharing that you guys get scams from the US. I never knew that. I guess I should have, but that is almost hilarious!
