Good morning Everyone!
I am writing an article for a new publication about the use of signature files and have a couple of questions for you.
#1 Do you use signature files?
If not, why not?
If so, how do you use yours? (feel free to share it in this thread)
2. Do you have more than one that you use for different occasions? Please explain.
For those of you who are unsure of what a signature file is Shiftnetworks.com has a good definition that I like to share: A signature line or file is "a short message placed at the bottom of an e- mail message or a discussion group posting that identifies the sender and can include items such as phone number, fax number, address, information about the person's occupation or company, and even a philosophical saying or humorous message."

Dear Mark,
Thanks so much and you gave a perfect example of a creative way to use one - If you used "I use mine everywhere! Even in the bath!" in your signature file I am quite sure you would get more people to click through to your website :)

Hi Heidi,
As you can see I do use signature files.
They are a way for people to find out more about me and what I do.
I also advocate using anchor text rather than straight links for the extra
"brownie" points in the search engines page rank.
I have several different sig files.
One for each email account I have and for different forums.

Hi Heidi,
Anchor text is using a descriptive phrase to link to a web page.
As in my sig below I use "First page SEO results" as the link instead of
http://dotcom-productions.com/cms/seo-results.htm
Doing this gives the search engines more context to use in their ranking of
pages than a straight link.
It is done by using code like
< a href="http://dotcom-productions.com/cms/seo-results.htm">First page SEO results.< /a>
where the hidden link follows the a href= and is in-between quotes and the
visible text link is after the first > bracket.
(I added a space after each of the leading brackets < to show the code here.
