Hello fellow members!! I have been building my site for about a month now and I have been clawing my way through the endless maze of advertising options and I am trying to decide what my next move should be. I want to generate targetted traffic but I don't want to go broke in the process. HELP!!

Maybe someone could take a look at my site and throw some ideas at me. Is the site good or not? Traffic ideas? I really appreciate it. Thanks

Hi Scott:

I am not sure what you are trying to achieve with your sight, but you must have had a target customer in mind when you built the sight? If not, you are doing things backwards. Who is your target market, what are their needs? When you know who your target market is, you can then work on how to gain access to them.

I am not sure I understand how you generate an income from your sight. Do you receive a kickback when people use the links?

You may want to include an opt in for a newsletter or weekly updates because people will get tired of perusing through the sight to see what is new. If you can send them what is new and safe them the hassle, you can build a database of clients and at the same time, make life easier for them.

Hope some of this helps.

Cheers,

Judy

There ARE free and low cost methods to advertise, but you always trade time for money. I recommend that you do add in some free methods along with your paid methods though, because they build LONG TERM momentum, and many paid methods do not.

My first recommendation would be article marketing. But learn to do it right, or it won't help you.

Second, watch the traffic TRENDS on your site, not just the numbers. If the traffic is growing, then you are heading in the right direction. Establishing a site well takes time.

I have to also agree with the person who responded and said they couldn't figure out who your target audience is. Not sure what a person would get from your site. Also (and this is particular to me, as I am in the business of teaching kids how to manage their money), you lose credibility with that "debt consolidation" description you have. People who are deeply in debt DO need to make a huge lifestyle change: filling out an "easy form" is not going to make their money troubles go away. Maybe you need to narrow your focus a little?

I didn't look at your site very thoroughly because honestly it just turned me off as soon as I saw it, it looked like a whole lot of different things.
I mean one link is for debt consolidation, then another you're selling jewelry??
Kinda opposite ends of the realm?

not sure what to tell you, perhaps focus on one thing?

As was said, you need to focus more.
You also need to find out more about SEO to get "organic" traffic from the major search engines.

Do you know where your traffic is coming from? Does your hosting plan supply stats?

Hello Scott,
First let me congratulate you on getting your Site up and running! While I didn't explore it, I like the PIX on the Home Page. :o)

Second, I did check your Alexa Rating - the measurement of Traffic to your Site. Your concern is probably the most common one, out there.

Like - everyone's site is competing with 56 Million other sites for eyeballs .... and thence buyers.

OK - What to do? Quick - to your excellent question:

I always refer people with this question to the link below:

a) let's them check their Alexa stats for themselves. When you read down the page you'll get to the point where you simply enter your Site's www;

b) Further along, help is provided where it shows how you can get more than an overdelivery of targeted Traffic to your Site....

Like - What if you can learn how to presell into a warm open-to-buy customer base? Would that be a Slam-Dunk or what?

Lots of great info to help you.

Oh - the integrity of this Resource is second to none.....as you will learn as you go along. You can take my word for it - but, it's OK to be a skeptic....but be an honest skeptic.

Here is the link to start you on your path:

By the way - move slowly but surely. There is no such thing as 'get rich quick'. Better to build a solid foundation that produces forever than to try and make a quick buck-or-2. Integrity is Everything in Life and especially on the Net.

I'm interested in knowing how you progress.

PM me anytime if I can help or just to keep me up-to-date.

Keep Smiling!

Fred

First I want to thank you all for providing me with your insights. In retrospect I have rewritten my homepage to give my visitors a more clear understanding of my goals for the site.
Maureen, upon reviewing that page I have to agree with you and I have made some revisions to it. That context was supplied to me and I should have read it more thoroughly.
I will read through all of the links that you wonderful people have sent me and I am sure I will gain further insight as I begin this journey. Once again, Thank you all.

Scott --

Your first two words on your web page say it all for me. They are:

Welcome Everyone

And that is your biggest mistake. When you are a small business owner, everyone cannot be your customer. When you try to make everyone your customer, no one ends up being your customer. As other members have indicated above, you have no target market.

You've made a classic mistake that many (most?) small business owners make. It looks like you picked a product (many products) to sell and now you are trying to find a market. That's backward. To be successful you need to clearly define your market along with their wants and needs, then create or find a product that is their solution. The more clearly you define your market, the more they will identify with what you have to sell and although you will have to market to them, it will be much easier.

I suggest you take a step back and start at the beginning. Define your market. Identify their needs. Build (or find) a solution to sell. Create a marketing plan. Then market to those prospects. You will be much more successful.

To help you with your marketing, take a look at one of the best products on the market for small business owners, David Frey's Small Business Marketing Bible. You can read more info about it at my small business blog.

Hi Scott,

I would firstly look at your homepage content and strengthen the message, it's very vague.

You need to workout what your most wanted response (MWR) of your page is and then point them towards it, otherwise they'll get confused or worse... Leave your site.

Once you do this, you can then have articles produced at a very reasonable rate from the likes of Elance.com or Guru.com or maybe you'll be lucky enough to find someone in this forum who you can network with to help you with articles. You should be able to have articles produced at about $10 / 500 word article.

Then you can either have them distributed for you or do it yourself, there are literally hundreds of syndicated article hubs, but only about 50 of the best ones would be required.

As for your site, there are many ideas I could help you with to further improve and understand the concepts of what's going wrong.

Where else are you struggling? And is anyone else here in the same boat?

Hope this helps.
