Would you recommend Google Adsense?Views: 1373
Jan 12, 2007 12:13 amWould you recommend Google Adsense?#

Barb Desmarais

My husband was speaking to someone yesterday who asked if I was using Google Adsense. I've worked with a number of people and no one yet has recommended it for me. Infact no one has ever mentioned it to me.

Would you recommend it? I have products on my site that I promote. Would I be allowed to add Google ads?

What do you think? I know this has been discussed before but I haven't read a thread on this in a long while.

Thanks so much for your input.

Barb

Hi, Barb ~ I wouldn't recommend Google Adsense to your sites as you sell your services, your ecourse - Google Adsense on a site gives visitors a reason to leave your site. When you have simply information and do not sell something - Google Adsense works but your two online sites are geared toward you and what you offer which is how it should be. Google Adsense gives me another opportunity to earn as I'm an affiliate marketer but if I sold something of my own - no Google Adsense. No banners to anything other that what I offer myself because when people leave your site like that its kind of like a "leaky" ship.

Have you considered putting your email subscription upper 1/3 of your front page - above the fold?

Great service you offer - I need to sign up for your newsletter :-) Tammy

Hi Barb,

I know some people who make between $100 and $200 a month with Adsense. One of them also got 50,000 unique visitors in one month, so that probably helps. It's better on a blog or forum rather than on a site where you're trying to sell something, because you don't want people to click away from your site!

That's all I know. . .

Hello Barb,
That is a Great Question!

Adsense is a fantastic way to generate passive income over time. Be careful, though. Research first the rules of Adsense.

EG: Adsense is quick to disqualify 'commercial or advertising' sites. You don't want that to happen to you!!

EG http://www.yourchildsselfesteem.com/ is NOT a suitable site for Adsense.....

Adsense loves sites that are high in content. Adsense places ads tailored to readers seeking Your information on your site. They click - You earn!

Barb, your first research would be into the CTPM model that can generate revenue for years...part of that revenue can be from Adsense.

Basically, you write Content that pulls Targeted Traffic (people searching for info that you offer) who in turn are Presold ( your warm targeted market) which you will /can Monetize.

Lets face it - most people search the Net for information - Not to buy something.

Now: How do you capitalize on this? - given there's +100 Million Sites out there. (There's a better way than shouting 'Pick Me! Pick Me!) :o)

Have a look at the explanation at: http://drive-traffic-to-your-site.first411.com

You can even verify your Site's ranking is among the 56 Million and what others are succeeding at.

This then, is my recommended starting point. That plus become familiar with Adsense's Policies.

Good Fortune to You!

PS: Why not Monetize? http://youtube.first411.com

Barb:

I agree with Tammy. I have worked both sides of Google Adsense -- as a publisher and an advertiser. Still do, with some sites. I took a look at both your sites and it looks like neither would be a good candidate. Most of the ads that would be delivered by the contextual system would be competing with you. Alternatively, it does not look like you're in one of the niches where the bid per click is very high -- quite the opposite, in fact. (I have a parenting-related site, and the Adwords clicks are pitiful in terms of dollars and cents).

All together, I think you'd be cluttering up your site, and making yourself look "commerical," for a miniscule amount of money.

Barb,
I use AdSense on most of my sites.
I have seen an increase in sales when it was positioned in the main page body, (the same position the major portals use for their primary ads.)

I do not worry about clickouts as they are so low as to be negligible, (less than 1%), and these convert into income, which would not happen without it.
If you see a larger percentage leaving it is an indication that you are not getting YOUR message across and folks are leaving to check other suppliers.

On a site with about 500 unique visitors a day we make +/- $100 a month.

Although Google will not admit to it, I find (content) sites with AdSense rank faster and better than without.

It is easy to setup and just as fast to remove should you decide that it is not working.
I can see it being used on both your sites, as long as you keep an eye on unique visits vs conversions.

Barb --

I've had adsense on some of my websites for a few years now and they make a consistent profit for me. I think adsense would work on your site on the articles pages.

You are not selling anything on those pages -- it's just content -- exactly what type of pages google loves. The main thing to remember is that people are going to click away anyway. Might as well make a few bucks on that action.

I have a similar situation on the article pages on my Team Building site. Adsense has worked out well. Your article pages could work for you too.

To get started, make sure you read about the google heat map and optimization tips. Plus it would be a good idea for you to check out the Google AdSense Blog.

Denise, Reg, Neil, Fred, Lisa and Tammy - I so appreciate your input on this. It helps me a lot. As I also sell products it seems I would have to confine it a page where I'm not selling something, like my articles page as you suggested Denise. I'm going to read the articles you suggested.

Thank you so much! I love networking here.

I am not sure about google adsense I have not used that. But, i do HIGHLY recomment using the google analytics to monitor and help optimize your website as well as google adwords. Those have both helped me tremendously.

My answer is NO

It's a total waste of money.

I have hundreds of pages, the only pages I have adsense on are at writingup.

If you purchase clicks from them they do not deliver.

It's an expensive way to get traffic to your pages.

My pages get minimum 10,000 visits a day.

Barb you need that many to make regular sales.

hi barb, i wonder if you were suggested for Google Adsense or Adwords -adwords is where you promote your site for targeted visitors. and Adsense is where those ads will show up - each click on your site's ads making you money. as someone who has consulted on adsense to others(we are a search engine marketing consultancy) i do not recommend this for your site selling something of your own. adsense is best done with may be similar content on a separate site - planned to make money. why not adsense on article pages? because, you have those articles to attract the visitors to the products you sell and with adsense ads there - you are losing those precious visitors to other firms -possibly your competitors! hope you get the BIG difference.

seotek,

We have had the opposite experience with AdSense.
When we placed it on a page selling our products, (In a prominent location - main body - right side - 320 x 320 sized ad), sales of our product increased.

Click outs leaving our site via AdSense links were around 0.5%
Hardly anything to worry about but still enough to make a few dollars.

Maureen, if you were paying for it then it is AdWords, not AdSense.

AdSense is free and pays you when a visitor clicks on one of the adsense links.

AdWords is where you choose the keywords to bid on and these are placed on other sites and in paid search results. When someone clicks on these you are charged.

AdWords work if you have a carefully crafted landing page that does its intended job of converting visitors to customers.

If they did not work for you it was your landing page, not the process.

Hi Barb

I have investigated GoggleAdsense but found the whole process is very complicated so I have never followed through with it. If you decide to go ahead with it, I would be interested to hear if your experience is positive or negative.
Thanks
