I thought I'd ask folks how they go about the act of marketing themselves as speakers, as opposed to marketing their businesses. Do you do the same things, or something different, and in either case, what do you do overall?
For me, I tend to send letters to organizations because I know most organizations will at least make some kind of payment to me. If they're local organizations I might follow them up with a phone call, but out of state organizations, I find I won't chase them down. I also never do a long distance speaking engagement for free; I figure I don't need the publicity that badly.
Also, I market myself through my newsletters and my website, though I haven't really concentrated as much on my website when it pertains to speaking, but I'm going to be changing that up real soon. And, of course, through social networking sites like Ryze. :-)
There you go; now, who else is willing to share?
