| The Public Speaking - The Essential Skill Network is not currently active and cannot accept new posts | Suggestions regarding Chambers of Commerce | Views: 727 | Feb 03, 2007 10:48 pm | | Suggestions regarding Chambers of Commerce | # | Maria Marsala | | My goal is to get front of large audiences of consultants, advisors and independent services businesses.
I thought that C of C would be a good venue, even if I had to speak at their meeting for free.
However, they are not easy to get into unless you know someone! Even in my own area, I've volunteered to speak and it's gotten me no where.
I'd love your ideas on how I can gain access to this venue. PS I have written articles on the subjects I can speak about, even ebooks. I have a page of testimonials, etc.

First, join a local chamber and network with those in high profiles within the organization. There is generally a committee which suggests and selects speakers. You may even have to be the sponsor of an event, breakfast or luncheon, and give your own 5-10 "Reader's Digest" version. While doing that event, promote another event where you will be giving the full presentation. I recently did just that where I sponsored a Human Resource Management luncheon to promote my own Continuing Education breakfast. It worked very well.
Second, when you have an event where you will be speaking, invite some of the chamber people to come as your guest. You may need to pay to get them in, but it will be a good way for them to get a feel for who you are and the quality of your information.
One last thing, I am a member of a speaker organization in the Dallas area. It was recently heavily promoted that everyone interested in public speaking needs to have a demo audio CD as well as a video. That becomes one of your marketing tools.
Hope this helps.

Be forewarned, these are usually sales and marketing directors, business owners or presidents....your topic had better be good and your presentation skills had better be excellent. A bad presentation in front of this group would not bode well for your speaking or business reputation. Private Reply to Peter O'Connell | |
