Universal Expositions, organizers of the country's largest furniture trade event Index Fairs in Mumbai, are pioneers in the tradefair industry in India for the last 17years, with over 60 tradefairs and exhibitions to their credit. They are also the India partners of Koelnmesse, Germany organizer of the world's largest furniture fair, IMM Cologne. Index Fairs returns to New Delhi, in response to the growing demand for specialized b2b tradefairs from the industry members in this region. In addition to being the national capital, New Delhi is the principal business and commercial centre in northern India, and is surrounded by industrial areas Gurgaon, Faridabad and Noida, in the National Capital Region. According to the economic survey of 2005–2006, Delhi had a per capita income of INR 53,976 which was around 2.5 times of the national average and is India's largest consumer market and the state has the highest concentration of households with an annual income of INR 5 million. Index Tradefairs in Delhi will showcase the products of over 50 exhibitors from India and overseas. While Index Furniture will exhibit finished products, Index Interfurn, supported by the All India Hardware Association will have a wide range of furniture hardware and accessories on the display. The product categories for Index Furniture include office furniture, modular kitchens, residential and outdoor furniture.
A company spokesperson emphasizes an excellent visitor profile as the most important feature of the tradefair, comprising members of the furniture trade (manufacturers, wholesalers, importers and exporters), professionals and specifiers (architects, interior designers) and institutional buyers (corporates and project managers). Serious trade visitors from all over India, the South-East Asian region and the Arabian Gulf as well as other international buyers who increasingly find Mumbai an easier alternative sourcing point to the more expensive and distant cities of the Far East, also visit the fair each year.
Universal Expositions Ltd. plans to reinforce the trend of b2b fairs in Delhi and the NCR by making it an annual event catering to the expanding furniture industry in Northern India.
