Rashmi Athanikar | | In order to keep your interest & enthusiasm in Nature & outdoor activities alive & kicking, we announce a new trekking destination in the Kumaon Himalayas this year: Sunderdhunga Glacier. This trek will be conducted in May 2007.
There will be one batch of 30 participants. Please ensure that your entry reaches us before the last dates given for each batch. No entries will be accepted after the train booking dates (60 days in advance) have gone by.
The region of Kumaon in Uttaranchal offers enchanting vistas of the Himalaya, forested glades, fertile valleys & foaming rivers. Sunderdhunga, literally translated means “valley of beautiful stones”. This valley is situated to the west of the Pindar valley & has two glaciers to offer i.e. Maiktoli & Sukharam glaciers. The main peaks to look out for are Tharkot (6100m), Mrigthuni (6856m), Maiktoli(6804m) & Panwalidhar(6663m). The base camp for this trek is Song, a small village located 36km from Bageshwar. The trek route via Lohar Khet, Dhakuri, Khati, Jatoli & Khatalia, finally reaches us to Sunderdhunga glacier at an altitude of 3806m. Total distance covered one way will be 48km.
The fees for this trek will be Rs.13,300/- all inclusive Mumbai to Mumbai. This will include Trek fees, equipment hire charges, porter & packass charges, to & fro train fares by sleeper class, bus fares & boarding charges. We will provide sleeping bags & carry mats. The fees also include a 2-3 day local pre – conditioning camp, sightseeing at Pataal Bhuvaneshwar (limestone caves famous for its stalactites) & a free day at Nainital.

Day to Day Schedule
Day 1 : Board train to New Delhi.
Day 2 : Reach New Delhi. Board Train to Kathgodam from Old Delhi.
Day 3 : Reach Kathgodam. Board bus to Song. Reach Song.
Day 4 : Trek to Dhakuri. Night Halt.
Day 5 : Trek to Khati. Night Halt.
Day 6 : Trek to Jatoli. Night Halt.
Day 7 : Trek to Khatali. Night Halt.
Day 8 : Trek to Sunderdhunga Glacier & back to Khatali. Night Halt.
Day 9 : Trek to Jatoli. Night Halt.
Day 10 : Trek to Khati. Night Halt.
Day 11 : Trek to Dhakuri. Night Halt.
Day 12 : Trek to Song. Night Halt.
Day 13 : Board bus for sightseeing at Pataal Bhuvaneshwar. After sightseeing
Proceed by bus to Nainital. Reach Nainital. Night Halt.
Day 14 : Free day at Nainital. Evening, board bus to Kathgodam. Reach Kathgodam.
Board train to Old Delhi.
Day 15 : Reach Old Delhi. Board train to Mumbai fro New Delhi.
Day 16 : Reach Mumbai.
Batch 1: 5th May2007 to 21st May 2007 ( Last date for entry 28th Feb. 2007)
