Dear All,

I am thinking of starting my own web based market research Firm. As of now i do research for my brother's clients who have market research needs. I want to target the below areas

1) Support in New Product Launches,
2) Identifying prospect client base for startup companies.

Can anyone here suggest me if there are any other areas on which i should be concentrating for providing market research services apart from the ones mentioned above. Also how can i get in touch with prospective clients or get to know about them. Please feel free to share any other information you feel would benefit me.. Looking forward for your responses

Regards,
Shweta ( Markdatservices)

This is a tough one.

The gap between thinking and doing is huge.

The problem with both these areas is that there is no defined market base because both are “new” and filled with other “thinkers” which may not have the time/money resources to go forward.

This creates a huge work load for you as you try to target their targets from their misty ideas.

My experience as a retired guerrilla marketer with many start-ups of micro business’s under my portfolio is that you are far better off to define your own target market of small business’s that are already “in business” but need help to get to the next level.

For one thing this means they have cash flow, profitable or not, “cash” is the operative word here, and they can actually pay you.

I suggest you start with real estate agents.

There are 3 million of them in the USA and most desperately need help as the failure rate for new realtors is 70% first year, 90% second year.

However, this is only my take on your request. But it may spark some more “thinking” on your part.

Cheers
Bob

hi Shweta,

you should probably look at providing research reports in India as an outsourcing destination.

there are a lot of companies who have failed while outsourcing to India, heaps more who wants to try outsourcing to India for a the first time and many more who are just looking at having a presence in India for strategic reasons.

all of this required huge research.

so i guess that could be an area where you can provide deep insights into the Indian market, geographies, demographics etc etc

hope it helps and hey good luck with your venture

Amit

It may be helpful to take a crash course in creating and executing surveys and market studies. There are specific tests you can use that will eliminate bias. There are also a variety of different types of surveys including multiple choice and open ended questionaires.

Another consideration is how to find and locate respondents to participate. I worked for a researh company who executed taste tests and they set up a datebase of regular respondants. However, they also paid the respondents for their time.

There are many free college/university courses that you can take that would be helpful.
