I was trying to understand the various advantages (mainly with respect to Marketing) a company can derive by hosting its blog. Can you please help me with your thoughts on this. Thoughts on the dis-advantages are also welcome.

In our case, the blog so far has been primarily useful in recruiting/hiring -- it creates a point of 'connection' between the potential employee and our business. The blog is a longer-range project. I don't see it as providing immediate reward; and in my research I see a lot of half-completed or stalled blogs.
My view right now is you should blog if you enjoy it. The marketing value will come through the expression of your passion for what you do. If you try to blog with the aim of 'finding business' you will probably end up disappointed, at least in the short term.

To be precise, I was considering this strategy to a newly rolled out service (Service Industry), targeted towards the Inidan HR Community.
What would your thought be for this?

One that I think would be great for you is a service called Terapad. I would put in a link but I do not have access to html yet but the address is www.terapad.com.
You can actually post jobs, services and just make it a general blog if you would like and it is totally free.
Hope This Helps
