Hello, Folks:

Do any of us remember that song played every Halloween since it came out in 1962? "The Monster Mash" is a silly, campy & catchy tune done in a Boris Karloff-type voice.

Refrain:

He did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mash

I mention this because the originator of this "one hit wonder," the man who not only wrote it but became infamous for "singing" it, died today of leukemia at the age of 69. Probably not a big deal to most people but when I heard this evening of his passing, it did give me pause.

I interviewed Bobby in 1991 in a tour bus on the banks of the great Mississippi River. It was in a teeny town called Trempeaulau, Wisconsin, & he was a kind, sweet bear of a man. I thought it worth the moment right now to remember him. Anyone who may be interested can visit the following link to read my interview:

Bobby will now do the big Monster Mash in the sky!

Blessings -- Linda

The Monster Mash! Amazing that a performer could become a legend on the basis of ONLY one song. Yet, it is so. The Monster Mash will be around for as long as Halloween is celebrated. I suppose it's a little like Bing Crosby's "White Christmas." Although Mr. Crosby became a rich and well published performer, I bet he will always be remembered for White Christmas; which as I understand it has sold more copies than any song in the world.
