I am not familiar on branding or strategies to create a brand.
Also if one is on a shoe-string budget, what are ways to create a branding?

Thanks

Hi Philip,

Branding on a budget is possible :)

I spent 18 years helping people create awareness
and brand themselves / their businesses, before becoming a
certified coach.

Your brand is your promise.

Here are a few suggestions to get started ...

Create a Logo / Picture that identifies your business.

Visualize the UPS logo

Create a message / tag line that explains what you do.
(your promise)

Hear the message "What can brown do for you?"

Figure out who you want to attract, (target market) then discover where they are and plan your marketing / advertising to reach them.

Commit to media synergy - Your message should be the same
when you advertise with several different mediums.(I.e. newspaper, radio, TV, Internet) Your message should also be
used when writing articles or participating in interviews as well as in your press releases.

Be consistent with your look and your message and you will start to build your brand.

Some excellent advice there Shann....very informative.

Just to add a little more to what has already been said, businesses that don't have sufficent and clear branding are defintly not doing justice to the future growth of their business. It's an essential element that needs to be established in the early days of a businesses conception.

Having said that, if you already have an established business it's never to late to implement a brand identity.

Here is a definition of what Brand is, taken from our website:

What is brand?

Your brand is the total sum of your company’s identity. Starting from its name, logo and marketing materials, right through to how every customer encounter is managed and maximised.

Brand also includes the vital values, principles and ethos that your business is built on - as these are the foundation of every other aspect of your customer experience.

As Shann has already pointed out, consistency really is key. Everything needs to mesh together to deliver the same message so as not to either confuse or mis-lead your clients.

I hope this helps to enlighten the topic of branding and what it is.
