Whether you live in Lake County, CA or not, there is a lot you can do to encourage attendance at "Middletown Days," June 16th and 17th. Here is a list of unique things you can do to bolster attendance and add to the excitement of the event:
1) Send a letter to the editor of the Middletown Times Star. Don't hesitate to mention where you are from. (One of our members who lives in Bangkok, Thailand has already sent an email.) Tell them you are excited that Althea Garner, who donated Project-Middletown to the townspeople, is returning after a two-year absence all the way from Fountain Valley, CA. This time she will be both in the parade and in the festival as a vendor. Tell them also how excited you are that 110 local students are helping to create a special "buzz" this year for the event, as opposed to just 30 last year. Tell them how thrilled you are that a local high school student has designed the "Middletown Days" t-shirt this year for the first time in the 45-year history of the event. Here is the email link to use to send your "letter to the editor - Middletown Times Star.
2) Post a letter to the editor of Lake County News. Here is the link to that web site - Lake County News. (By the way, the publisher of that online newspaper is Elizabeth Larson. She is a member of this network.)
3) Post a letter to the editor of the Lakeport Record-Bee. Here is the link to that web site - Lakeport-Record Bee.
4) Contact the Fox News Channel at 1-888-369-4762. Leave a message thanking them for sending Adam Housley last year to speak at "Middletown Days." Encourage them to send a voicemail greeting this year to (707) 929-9064. That voicemail can be played over the PA system prior to the parade on June 16th. If they would also like to send a banner, door prizes or even engage in a Skype call, that too can be arranged. Just have them call the same phone number for details. You might also request that Fox's Fox and Friends contact John Gay (a nice elderly gentleman) for an on-air phone interview at (707) 987-9310. He is in charge of "Middletown Days" for the Middletown Central Park Association.
5) Post an encouraging comment on the Ryze Event for "Middletown Days." Here is the link - Middletown Days. There is also a web site link on that same page to an Evite invitation. Please click on that link and add an RSVP positive comment.
6) Request that Melissa Fulton, chairman of the Lakeport Regional Chamber of Commerce, do a email blast to her membership concerning "Middletown Days," Father's Day Weekend, June 16th and 17th. (Last year there was a conflict of interest. This year there is not.) Here is Melissa's email address - execdirector@pacific.net.
7) If you live in the Middletown area, make plans to come by the Mugshots Internet Cafe in Downtown Middletown and meet Althea Garner on Friday, June 15th. Details are still be worked out as to the specific time she will be there. But, specific details will be posted here. Althea would like to meet and talk with you about this amazing town and what's happening.
I realize this is asking a great deal. But honestly, anything you can do is greatly appreciated. So, if all you have time to do is one of the seven requests, as my friend in Bangkok, Thailand says, "Go for it!" The activities here will be history in less than a month. People around the world helped to make "Middletown Days" special last year. Let's keep the momentum going.
