That should qualify, glad that you learned what the issue was and got a handle on it.

I wouldn't call them less than normal thinkers. Most with ADD seem quite good at thinking outside the box, I think they get frustrated when others (such as schools) try to confine them inside a little box, limit their creativity.

My kids have had some understanding grade school teachers. One son was allowed to fold orgami during class, he'd be making dragons, or his own creations. It helped him focus on the lesson. I was concerned that the teachers would find it distracting to rest of the class, yet his classmates expected him to be making something, and it didn't disrupt.

As he got older, in middle school, he was taking an end of year algebra test (counted for high school credit). He got through way ahead of everyone, turned in his paper and settled down to create something out of paper. His teacher was concerned that he blew through the test so he could get back to fun, and called him to her desk. "This test is very important and you don't want to ruin your grade, at least go back and double check your answers" He would not. He politely told her that there was no need as all his answers were correct. She was unable to talk him into rechecking the test. Then when she checked his test, he was right, he had a perfect score.

I'm glad that you've found a way the harness your talents.
