Anand K. R | | I went through this few years back. Few golden rules
1) Eat on time & dont skip meals... preferably small meals spaced out. Otherwise you will end up with a bad gastric problem 2) Eat the most neutral food possible...that means spice, oil, anything that is acidic in nature (citrus fruits etc) is out of window till the time you feel better and doc says you can get back to normal food routine. My doc had asked me to avoid onion & garlic. 3) Avoid the above & you pretty much can eat your regular food that is very low on spice. Make your soups (dal included) thin so that there is less load on your digestive system.
Have a fast recovery.

Virendra Ahluwalia | | Hi, I have read somewhere recently that eating sugar free chewing gum after a meal reduces acidity. I have been trying it since a week now and have been quite successful. The key to it is to chew for atleast a half hour or more. cheers! Virendra Private Reply to Virendra Ahluwalia |

Renuka Narwankar | | Pallavi the best n simplest is to drink Cold milk...If not cold ..room temperature will do .....donot drink hot milk...If u drink cold milk b4 sleeping it works wonders
One more simple thing is Vanilla icecream..have as much as u can ... U also can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a glass n pour some pepsi or thumsup for the froth..this is also very beneficial for acidity
All above are tested :) n proves extremely beneficial..Check it out
Most of the things to b followed are already mentioned above..but try n cut down on stress...as stress n tension develope acidity...Keep gelusil SYRUP antacid handy...which is known to b the safest...

Rajesh Pandey | | take a pinch of Cinnamon powder with a teaspoon of honey every morning. If you can, stop morning tea and instead, use the pinch of cinnamo powder, a teaspoon honey and regular tealeaves to make your morning truly good!
avoid milk and milk-based products, they take took long to digest and even curd will not be of any efect for long term acidity (assuming since you have been hospitalised already)
Hope the rabits are doing fine!!! Private Reply to Rajesh Pandey |

Sushama Joshi | | My husband has severe case of acidity. He vomits a lot on the day it's too much. happens once in one and half month or so.
I give him mosambi juice / lemon water. Mosambi juice is very good for him. he starts feeling better immediately. He finds Iced tea also very useful. Iced tea packets are available these days so you can make it easily!
Hope you find this helpfulPrivate Reply to Sushama Joshi |

Asha Anand | | Pallavi, wishing you good health.
Along with good food (=food that suits you) at regular intervals, please included walks either in the morning or evening.
You can also start your day with two glasses of warm water. After a half an hour, do 5-11 Surya namaskaras. Rest for 5-7 mins. Then do pranayama for about 15 mins. Rest for 5-7 mins. Yep, break your fast with a suitable (fresh) fruit juice and then have breakfast.
In the evening, one of the options is to go for a brisk walk. Have a fruit of your choice (before dinner) and then have light dinner. Do not sleep/sit down immediately after dinner. Walk around a litte and then say goodnight.
I understand this routine can be difficult; I have slipped it many times myself. But, trust me, it does wonders to you health - body and mind, and your skin.
Good health - mind and body - is my only best friend.

Madhuri Sen | | I've had an acidity problem ever since I can remember. That never really kept me away from food. But here are a few things that help keep the acidity under control. Haven't gone through the million excellent tips that have already been posted but..here are mine:
Apples - about 2 a day whenever the urge to snack hits you
Large portions of boiled vegetables - I make a thick Italian style soup that I favor, let me know if you want the recipe
If you start feeling mild hunger pangs...eat something - anything, even a tiny bite before the acidity hits
The old granma's recipe - Lime with honey. I just bottle ice tea and add honey before I have it. Again happy to share recipe if you want it
Drink as much liquids and water through the day - but skip the ones with added sugar. My fridge is always stacked full with chaas, jaljeera, fruit juice ...and of course the ice tea I mentioned
Add a bit of curd to all meals. Make dahi rice with tadka your fast food option when there's no time to cook proper lunch or dinner
Stay away from refined food and calorie rich/ zero nutrition food..fast food pizza, instant nodles, instant pasta...you get the drift
BTW..milk never helped me - neither hot nor cold. I guess it depends on your level of lactose tolerance and I have none!Private Reply to Madhuri Sen |

little prince | | PB try Kokum juice and Kokum kadhi gen known as sol kadhi. Kokumjuice is available in all super markets. The kadhi is made in coconut milk nad is very soothing and cooling. I usually take it during summer.
Fry cumin seeds and mustard seeds in little oil when they stop sputtering add a few curry leaves then immediately the kokum flowers [2-3 shld suffice]. after almost quarter of a min pour in coconut milk with salt and sugar to taste. You can dilute it with water, depends on the consistency you perfer. usualy have it a little liquidish. One can then sprikle some corriander and or mint leaves and either just drink it or eat it with rice.
Someone above has talked abt curd rice. Add long sliced onions and strips of ginger while tampering the rice. With curds they add to the cooling and soothing effect.
One alternative, I can see your face twisting in horror :p but it is said to be effective in chronic acidity.
take half a glass of cold milk and half a glass of any arretaed drink {YES U READ RIGHT] gulp them down at once together.
Try it.Private Reply to little prince |

Alakaline | | If you really want a veg. you could go for doodhi bhopla (lauki) .. its a mild veg that does not irritate the tummy. Remember not to add chillies to it.

priti | | I have been diagnosed with the same problem, tho in the initial stages, only last week. Bad eating habits led to this ..skip food becos u are busy!! Have lunch towards evening since you didnt find time to eat!!
Curd Rice really works for me. Also avoid all fried stuff. Thats causes more pain than the spicy. I also take curd and honey every day.

Asha Shenoy | | Hi Pallavi,
I am a new member of Ryze and here's advice for you on acidity. Avoid all refined foods-sugary,containing refined flour, bakery products including biscuits cakes etc.Take fruits like papaya, bananas, apples etc.
For instant remedy best take kokum juice. 2Tbsps boiled cooled with a pinch of salt. You can add this to buttermilk and drink too. Have this every day with your lunch and if possible in the morning with breakfast and you will feel the change!!
Curds (no sugar),butter milk, lime juice, orange juice are all good so are fresh veg salads esp cucumber, onions(very cooling),white pumpkin(in curds),mullangi.
Methi seeds soaked in water overnight can be consumed with the soaked water.
Last but not least avoid all junk foods which are out there to get people of your age ( I am 54!)and spoil you rotten.Take timely meals ( carry some veg brown-bread sandwiches to take a bite when hungry inbetween your busy schedules). Go through my blog for healthy recipes(the photos there are of my mom who is a great cook and whose cooking has kept me healthy all these years!!).

Tainted Saint | | My aunt swears by this:
Wash and cut Bhindis into small pieces in a bowl. Pour some hot water and let it stand until a thick viscuous liquid is formed. Sorry, doesnt sound very inviting but drink this liquid. And yes, eat smaller meals every 3 hours and keep sipping water. Avoid acidic and spicy foods and exercise or go for walks.
hope you manage to control and manage your problem, Pallavi. All the best.Private Reply to Tainted Saint |

Saritha Rao | | Tried Nariyal Paani (Coconut water)? I hear wonderful things about it being great for the digestive system.
Vanilla Ice cream to substitute a meal/snack i.e., have only ice cream, maybe at tea time. I'll vouch for this one. Isn't as effective along with other food.

Ganesh Kumar | | Pallavi,
When I had ulcer I was adviced to take this :
Take some boiled rice(about 1 cup) and soak it in water (should be atleast half a jug full).Keep this over night.
Next day, drain the rice and add some curd and a pinch of salt. Add some crushed coriander leaves(but no chillies) to taste. Sometimes a pinch of turmeric powder can also be added.
Stir well and have it in the mornings and afternoons(half and hour before food). Do this for a week and you will feel better. Good luck.

Basab Ghosh | | Lots of good advice here, but not really for regular food. Pallavi, for next three months, boiled or cooked with just smell of oil food is what you should take. Try different vegetable / lean meat stews with just half a teaspoon oil (olive oil). No fried stuff. Use the microwave for cooking as much as you can. If milk upsets your stomach then milk is out, but curd rice is on. Curd is much more easily digested. Bland stuff can be livened up with a dash of rock salt.
One very important advice you already have... eat frequently in small quantities, never let hunger pangs set in.
Finally, take the Ranitidine regularly and religiously.
Wish you a quick recovery.Private Reply to Basab Ghosh |
