Inez.
It's father-in-law's birthday on the 21st and the menu's all finger foods...
Have offered to make prawns - any suggestions what I can make - apart from manchurian, tandoori etc?

hi,
Crumb fried and served with tartatre is fab. Orly batter is also good with a nice piquant chillie garlic sauce or the good old Prawn pakoras with a lot of corriander mint and green chillie
Trust this helps.

Prawns marinated for an hour with paprika , turmeric, lemon juice, fresh cracked pepper and ajwain ( of all things I know but I saw an episode of a cookery program with the chef from the bukhara and he used it so just go with it, works very well. He rolled them in besan before putting them in the tandoor ). Tastes best grilled with a squeeze of lemon.

Thanks for your suggestions, guys...Being a woman I'm now more confused than ever with 3 options - but I guess I'd better make up my mind quick - Friday's not far away. Will let you know what I did and how it turned out! :)

Ha Inez. Have been offline 4 long and saw this now. So finally what did u make ?

One unusual recipe is scrape and peel a cucumber and hollow it out. Boil and chop prawns and mix it with some thick mayonaise and fill the cucumber with this. Chill in the fridge and then cut it into half to 3/4th" circles and serve.

OK people - so I said I'd do the prawns, but then decided I'd be She-Woman and do the whole kit and caboodle...That's why I'm Completely Woman:)... so here's the menu:

1. Ear-burning Salsa Dip
2. Garlic and Dill Dip
3. Imperial Prawn Tarts (made from scratch - how great is that???)

3. Spinach, corn and mushroom bake - Easy-peasy and quick
4. Sausage bake - another Easy-peasy

5. Pear and mint salad
6. Smoked cheese and ham salad

7. Dessert was a Baked Alaska - something I hadn't done in a long time.

Everything went down well - there no food critics, though!
Recovered all of yesterday
Back today...
Have a great Sunday :)

PS Suman thanks for the input...sounds goooood. Will try it next time. am thinking if I marinate the prawns in a bit of Habanero sauce before I steam them it might give them the little 'kick' we Indians anticipate in our food. what say?
