danabhai jewellers have a very large showroom in santacruz west in bombay. they have at any given tme 4 to 5 large expensive pedigreed dogs who are supposed to be guard dogs. over the years around 50 dogs have died due to abject neglect. breeds like alsatians, great danes and labrador are commonly "bought" by the "owners" and kept in the garden. they have no protection from rain or sun. an 80 year old gardener looks after them. he is too old to really do anything for them but the poor man does his best out of compassion. the owners say they buy expensive food for the dogs but the hieght of neglect is tremendous.
recently i met a female alsatian at a vet's clinic who was too weak to even stand up!
a dog dies the owners promptly buy another. vets in the vicinity have at times refused to treat the dogs out of anger hoping the owners will react to the sentiment and then stop this cruel practice. and then gone back to treating the animals out of spent force because at least then they can monitor the dogs health.
i have called up a few animal organisations and pleaded this case but no one has managed to stop these cruel people from buying and killing dogs.
they insist that they need the animals for security... but the poor thing cant stand on its own feet what security is it going to offer. at least 50 dogs have died in the past 10 years.
please someone somewhere do something to save any more dogs from dying in this jeweller's store.
