Tarun Hukku

Have come across quite a few people on BBN who are either artists and creative personalities themselves or support the arts in their many ways.

I believe its time for them to have their own space on BBN to discuss or present their works to all.

Lets give them an opportunity to keep alive the spirit of the arts - and encourage a greater participation here

Over to you

Thanks Tarun!!

Very thoughtful of you.

However, I wonder, how would the artististic essence express itself in this forum. The language an artisit uses essentially is more eclectic than any dialect created thus far.

Tarun Hukku
Couldnt agree with you more Indraneel ... just thought we could make a beginning here by giving opportunities for exposure to artists ... and allowing people to connect with them as we go along ... over a period of time I realized that we have artists, art dealers, art journalists etc on BBN and maybe they just dont know that the others are here too

And of course it would be wonderful if someone like you who is well informed, is a thinker, has an interest in arts can help trigger off some thoughts discussions & debates

Warm wishes
Tarun

Hi Tarun,
Best thing to happen on BBN! 3 cheers to Tarun.

Let me introduce myself on this board:
My parents named me Umesh and I do spend time painting less often(see my artworks http://www.affordindianart.com/pages/umeshuv.html ) than dealing with contemporary Indian art through my own art portal: http://www.affordindianart.com selling Indian art to art collectors worldwide.

I also blog on art-related topics to educate people on art and awareness about art as an investment option to new generation collectors.
http://www.affordindianart.blogspot.com

Hope those who are interested would explore the above-mentioned sites and also subscribe to my newsletter to get updated on my site new arrivals periodically.

Are you a mind reader Rohit :-)

Im sure we will see more activity on this thread that will help us create the right creative environment for a mixer

I think we should all get a lot more people from the creative fraternity to join up - in case they are not on BBN ...this will help bring critical mass

Chandrani Choudhuri
Hi Tarun and All,

This is indeed a great idea to have a discussion forum or at least a thread just for Artists or Art lovers :)

To introduce myself within this closed group, I have been a great lover of Indian Classical music and have personally learnt Kathak dance and Hindusthani Vocal. But once got into Engg studies, since then I have completely lost touch in practicing these art forms.

But, the void was filled by my involvement into SPICMACAY (Society for Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) since the first semester of college days till today. My this involvement has brought me into close connection and interaction with many great legendary artists of this great country (Utd. Bismilla Khan, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pt. Hari Prasad Chowrasia, Pt. Vishwamohan Bhat, Smt. Darshana Jhaveri, Sri. Shashank, Sri. Ravi Kiran, and many more...). I really owe to SPICMACAY for those great times :)

Now, again the thirsty artist within me is motivating me to rejoin Kathak dance classes. Soon, that will become a reality again :)

It will be great to know many more great artists and Art lovers within BBN and learn from you all...

Yes, Mixer exclusively for this group is a great idea. I am sure, this will have it's own special flavor :)

Hoping to have great time with you all...

Hi Nina,

That is a good idea...

I feel it will be good to have the first mixer just as an informal gathering of the interested artists. Thus all can meet and interact with each other and share.

Based on the success of that mixer then next step can be planned to have it as an exhibition cum mixer.

hi
thanks to tarun for initiating a process. the idea of art could actually come in to a final shape if all of us can agree on a common platform.

i had a dream of having one day exclusive fair for performing art and i did try and revive BAND STAND IN CUBBON PARK IN THE YEAR 2004. The event could not fall in to place bcoz of lack of sponsors, if all of us agree then we could restart the event.

Hyde park is the only place where the best of performing artists have performed, why shouldnt we use the existing opportunity and create one in bangalore????

we will have 3 hours of performing arts every weekend ie saturday between 4.30 pm and 7.30 pm. we should not have problem of filling the artists and programs.

please revert back on this issue.

you could also call me at +91 994 536 8083

happy ryzing

Excellent Idea!!!

Tarun- loads of thanks to you for creating such a nice forum.

Talking about Arts, I am a better spectator/ audience than a creator/artist. I also do a bit writing and sometime try a hand on modern art. I think you people will surely need spectators also for the show. So here is one in me.

Thanks all for this initiative.

the best place to be is CHENNAI, you have almost 8 to 10 Sabhas or halls that will be having different types of
cultural activities. one can choose the artist that you want to listen to or watch the dance programs.

I am interested in effort to revive some “going extinct” genre of music, like the Thumri.

Recently I have published an article on Thumri in the Deccan Herald – Kaun gali gayo Shyam (link below)

http://www.deccanherald.com/Content/Nov252007/sundayherald2007112337386.asp

This was more to awaken interest in this genre and do something about it and not as an one-off piece of writing.

I am looking at organizing lecture / demonstration / performance by established artists.

Anyone with ideas and the willingness to work on this, please respond in this thread, PM me or mail to ashisdutta@gmail.com

HI,
I'm still trying to find my way aroudn this website...so forgive me if I'm posting this on the wrong forum.
BUt I think I've got it right. I'm from Blore & was looking for a network for creative arts etc

A friend of mine and I have worked on an art book of sorts - an interactive of Poetry & Fine ARt Photography.
We need to now get cracking on getting it published.
Any suggestions on Publishing HOuses that can be contacted?
IF there are events/exhibitions where the book can be showcased/sold etc?

Any help would be appreciated. Cos' this project started of as an experiment but now has taken a life of its own. And this is a first time for both of us, so we're quite clueless actually!

You can gift something to your customer, staff or a valuable client,

Or you can give something very special that you will be remembered for a long time.

In a world fighting against time, what you give can make a lasting difference, each time, every time.

So when you give, make it unique.

Surprise adds delight.

A glass or ceramic painting can be as unique as your fingerprint.

Tribal art in India’s unique art form - Warli can become your signature or vice versa.

A graphite sketch of the one to be gifted would be as unique as the one to be gifted.

Cards are no longer pieces of colourful cardboard.

You can feel your message come alive as verse.

But most importantly, you don't have to fret about making the right decision because we have already have the gifts that suit your occasion.

Shae is your gift to gift!

Visit http://sheena.dhanaraj.googlepages.com/home for a peek into a few of my paintings and sketches.

Hi Folks

Does anyone know an artist in Bangalore who does Murals and undertakes such work for homes?

We're exploring the possibility of having a mural on one of our walls, but no idea if there are people who do this; There is a lot of wall art available from paint companies of course, but those are 'designs', not the same as a painting.

Also, has anyone got this done and has some indicative prices?

regards
Aparna

Hi Aparna,

For homes one can have a mural made of traditional folk painting such as Madhubani or Pithora, or, one could opt for a mixed media work that can be designed according to your preference.

Rates vary based on medium (paint, terracotta, copper, steel, glass etc), size & artist. These are computed on a per sq ft basis. Rates begin at 200 - 250 per sq ft and can go up to 3000 per sq ft or even more.

If it's a painting the artisan or artist will do it on the spot, but for mixed media (or 3 D) works one can have it made and then fixed to the wall.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Oct 31, 2008 5:51 amHi Everyone !!#

Surajit Ray
I came across this topic while cruising through craft related networks and was very interested right away !

A little introduction - I am an ex-engineer now promoting tribal and folk artists from India. I had worked with a survey company before this. It was during many of these surveys which took me to the hinterland, that I developed a liking for our traditional art forms.

And I wondered ... even after all the effort our government makes, and with all of this huge handicrafts business across the world - why does so few of the next generation want to do it ? Half of the art forms I saw were on the verge of extinction (if that term can be used in the context of art !).

Well the answer was really simple. A contemporary artist today enjoys the support of galleries, has websites and often is able to organise his own shows and displays. But the traditional artist has been made into a "worker". A person who is ignored once his product is ready.

I did not like this "industrialization" at all. One reason is that art cannot be made by machines - if it is then its no longer art. So to reduce the artist to a machine is also what no one likes.

So the next generation of these artists go looking for places where there efficiency is more in demand than their art. Often these arenas are less and less "art" and hence in the end all the artists disappear and all that remains are factory workers !!

I started Rare Indian Art to prevent this inevitable demise of the traditional art forms. A place where you can learn about the art forms, know about and communicate with the artists, and get custom unique designs made in traditional styles !!

I like to choose the artists whom I work with. These artists are not only highly skilled ( as is required from a traditional craftsmen...) but also imaginative and willing to experiment with their art. Its a bit like choosing the artists from among the workers. The catch is to make out who has got the right balance of creativity + skill . Some are very creative - often such people can be trained by expert workers to produce exceptional artists. Some are great workers who know the art very well but lack a bit of the "vision". These people are the ones who maintain the tradition.

The website is the front end for these artists. Here you can see pics as well as descriptions about who they are and what they do. We are uploading content every day so please do come back if you need more information about these art forms and the artists. We have a vast array of products already. We also build customized items if you give us the details. Through us you can directly interact with the artists to give them ideas !!

The website is based on the open cart system - zencart. It is highly secure and protected by encryption (SSL) and payments can be made through paypal or any VISA or MasterCard credit card through CCavenue (A trusted portal from India).

I request everyone here to please have a look at these artists and their craft. Write me a note of you like what you see !!(email: surajit@rareindianart.com) Also your feedback regarding the website itself will be highly appreciated !

Shobha(usha) gowri
I thought they were good and a great effort
But my concern has always been the costing of these products-while I am not advocating say 10 rs a thousand and odd bucks for a shell figure is something I will move away from -so will the folks from the West.
Travelling just opened my eyes to how they do it elsewhere-there is an art-well done at that-that is meant for the not so regular buyer -that too brings money to the artist
Then there is the "art" which I will pick up only by scouting

So a good way is to find that magic mark-and I would be very happy to put your link on my website on India.

Vinod,

I'm not sure what the application is - some time ago, I'd seen some clay pottery/work on Sarjapur Road at Agara (just off the road) which were about 4 to 5 ft. These are very rustic pieces and will not be suitable if you are looking for polished work with good finishes.

And most important... where could i get it done?

Thanks in advance!

Petite Nina
You could frame it between 2 flat pieces of glass. This brings out the subtlety of the picture. The glass should be approx. one and half times the size of the pic.i.e. there should be an adequate border of glass all round the pic. However the frame would have to be made of wood or metal.

Hi Tarun,
Good thread. Thanks a ton, this really cheers me.
I am very good in painting landscapes on canvas with acrylic colours. This hobby unwinds me whenever required. I recently came out with a new idea of creating the same landscape picture on earthern pots and the canvas both. This can make a great deal with the interior designing.
Thanks once again for the encouragement.

Can Rishabh solve the cryptic clues that lead to King Kempe Gowda’s fabulous treasure before the Shark can get to it? Will the vermin survive Ajji’s herbal pesticide attack? Will Shashee be able to spin her way out of this tangled web of intrigue?

With the help off other children, friendly cockroaches, cheeky mosquitoes and a very Big Bandicoot, they set out of prove that no problem is too big even for the smallest of creatures.
