What is the Best Skype WiFi Phone?Views: 904

What is the best Skype WiFi phone on the market right now? I am interested in a Skype Wifi phone that I can actually hook into an HDTV and use for a video conference tool. I understand that the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet has Bluetooth but that is just for audio. What Skype WiFi phone has an audio and video out? I think the Broadcom Video Phone is impressive, but I am not aware that it is Skype compatible and has an audio/video out.

I can't really tell you which phones are best, but if you're planning on using internet telephony for your business, you might want to reconsider.

For months I've been reading about security holes and phishing schemes regarding internet telephony; the latest I've seen for Skype is known as 65404-SkypeDefenderSetup.exe. More come out every week, so I'd be concerned about using the system for anything sensitive.

Good luck!

Hi Lamar,

I get excellent results using a wireless laptop and a webcam. Very simple to hook the output of your laptop to the aux input (usually on the front) of your tv. If you don't have a built-in microphone, you can add a real good external mic for around $6.00.

Scott,

I just closed my Vonage account. There has been a lot of bad press about Vonage lately losing a lawsuit to another phone company. I have decided to go with Skype 100%. It actually does a lot more - and for a lot less - than Vonage.

My thinking is that Panasonic's Skype WiFi phone is the best phone available for WiFi calling. I think it is also the most expensive. Do you know of a better Skype WiFi phone?

Hi Lamar!

Yes, Vonage has gotten some bad press of late, and I think much of has to do with their visibility. Even Skype has gotten some bad press, but it seems to pale compared with Vonage's woes. But I'm not trying to talk you out of anything...

As far as the phone you're looking into, I really don't know that particular model. I will say that my experience has been that Panasonic makes mostly sturdy, reliable, high quality devices, so it's probably a safe bet. Have you considered looking at sites like epinions, amazon, or other sites that support user feedback?

Being a bit of an adventurer, I'd condsider the E-TEN glofiish X500, but figuring out the data settings may not be for everyone, and at $600+, it's not a cheap adventure.

At the end of the day, I don't know that you'll find a better WiFi Skype phone than the Panasonic KX-WP1050 right now, but for less than half the price, the Linksys CIT400 is worth a look. I think you probably get what you pay for with both the Panasonic and the Linksys, though.

I thought this article might be of use to you: http://www.skypejournal.com/blog/archives/2006/09/fall_von_2006_special_time_to_move_beyon.php#more

Good luck!
