Andrea "Andi" Yates | | Hi Everyone,
Wow it's been forever, I hope everyone and your furry kids are doing exceptionally great.
My husky Cody (the bigger one on the photo on my Ryze page) tore his tendon on his knee a few weeks ago. We had him xrayed and he's on meds and glucosamine. He was feeling better a couple weeks ago and reinjured himself. Today his leg is really really sore so I have him on his pillows...we feel so terrible for him...is there something else we can do to speed up the healing process? Or to give him to ease his pain. He's a little on the high strung side so we can't put a cast on his leg or wrap it without having him knocked out which we don't want to do.
HELP!!!! Thank you so much.

Ann Rader | | Hi Andi,
You vet has probably given you the proper meds. You might want to look for a supplement that contains ingredients that address inflamation in the entire joint -- boswellia, yucca, alfalfa, msn. My company does offer one -- Agility -- and my friend Beth, who I met here on Ryze, is offering it on her HealthyPetNet web site: http://www.nutritionforcritters.com.
Ultimately, surgery may be required. If you do have to go that way, the TPLO surgery is best for a large breed dog. That's Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteonomy. You can look it up. And if you have any questions about it just let me know -- my Great Dane had the surgery on both knees so I'm sort of an expert by default!
Good luck, I hope Cody feels better soon.

Andrea "Andi" Yates | | Hi Ann,
Thank you for your reply.
The Agility product sounds good. We bought Dauquin with MSM from the vet, which he has about 3 or 4 days left. Do you know anything about this product, and/or if we should switch him to yours or get more of the Dauquin.
Thanks Ann, I REALLY APPRECIATE your assistance.

Kristin | | Hi Andi!
I'm so sorry about Cody! Poor baby! I loved Ann's recommendations. I have never had the problem for a canine but as a massage therapist I have for humans. Basically I would ice then heat (but ask vet if that's what a dog should have).
I had an old Irish setter who had arthritis, she was relieved by acupuncture. Now it's not going to heal it quicker but may make it feel better--then again, if it feels better Cody may reinjure it again!
So sorry about your conundrum! I'll send him big cyber pats!
Hello to Johnny too!

Andrea "Andi" Yates | | Hi Kristen,
Yeah, my poor dude ripped his tendon...I have no idea how. Maybe he should stop doing those 360's or something (lol). He was getting better and reinjured himself playing with Willow. They've always gotten, glucosamine with MSN, flax seed, omega 3's/fish oils etc. They are really well supplemented and love them...they eat them like treats, totally cute.
We just got him an anti-inflammatory today and he seems to be really responding to that right now. They get at least one massage a week, normally a couple because they love them so much. I really don't want to do surgery but will as a last resort if he's not healing properly in the next couple weeks. Other than this I just don't know what else to do for him except to smother him with love.
Hope all is well with you....did you get a monkey yet?

Andrea "Andi" Yates | | Hi Ann,
Thank you so much for asking. Cody is improving...he is still limping a little but improving daily..his spirits are high and he's being smart about taking it easy...He's probably 75 per cent better....thank god.
Have a great weekend and thank you so much for your care and concern.

Ann Rader | | Good news! That's wonderful that he probably won't need surgery! Hooray! Private Reply to Ann Rader |

Andrea "Andi" Yates | | Definitely doesn't need surgery...thankfully. He's still hobbling around but is much better than before. And his little sister Williow (the imp) is being mellow with him as well...Cody's a little on the high strung side =)...but what a sweet sweet boy! Hopefully he'll be up and running again in the next couple months.
Thanks again for your care. Have a great weekend AndiPrivate Reply to Andrea "Andi" Yates |
