Dick Cheney Gets A Pay Raise

• Washington rewarded itself handsomely with raises all around this month, as reported in the new Federal Register. [AP]
• (Good thing for them that, as opposed to us out here in the real world, their pay raises aren’t connected to their approval ratings.)
• Yep, Vice President Dick Cheney got a taste; his salary went up $5,400, to $221,100 a year.
• Lawmakers in Congress saw their pay go up $4,100, making their 2008 salaries $169,300. (Their raises were frozen last year, when Democrats blocked its annual pay increases until Congress raised the minimum wage for the first time in a decade.)
• And the associate justices of the Supreme Court also saw a 2.5% increase. Congratulations, Sam Alito, you’re now making $5,100 more than you did last year. Chief Justice John Roberts, you got a slightly bigger bump, being Chief Justice and all. Spend that $217,400 wisely — there’s talk of a recession going on out here in the real world!
