Divorce, American Style

An article on ABC News about a spike in divorces this time of year caught our eye
yesterday, but it was the first two sentences that really captured our hearts.
-
The article discussed the fact that January in both the United States and the U.K.
is divorce month.
-
The pressure of the holidays, too much celebration booze, hard-to-handle families
prove a toxic cocktail to many marriages and the New Year proves a popular time to
call it quits and start fresh.
-
The first Monday after New Years is such a busy day for divorce lawyers that, in Britain,
it’s simply known as “D-Day.”
-
But we loved Donna, the woman who told her particular story to ABC News. And we quote:
-
“Friday, barely 10 days after making a New Year’s resolution, Donna is going to see
her therapist about divorcing her husband of six years. ‘Emotions run high around
the holidays,’ said the 56-year-old California businesswoman, who did not want her
full name used because she hasn’t yet broken the news to her husband.”
-
Yes, you read that correctly. The lovely soon-to-be divorcee Donna found no problem
telling a national news source she was leaving her husband *before* she told her husband.
-
More Donna about her Merry Christmas: “I didn’t want to give my husband or anybody
on his side of the family any hope. I completely ignored him. I knew that right after
New Year’s, I was going to have a fresh start.”
-
The divorce rate in the United States is one of the highest in the world, at 3.6 divorces
per 1,000 inhabitants. [Washington
Post]

The second most popular time of year to get divorced? September, right after the kiddies
go back to school.

My wife is looking at me funny lately.
You see, I watched Cher's Farewell Tour on TV a while back and
I just went over deep end again about Cher. Sure, I knew she was talented
in so many ways, but I never saw her in person or on a video.
Geez, I even paid full price when I ordered the Farewell Tour video.
Frankly, I fell in love with Cher again when she said in the show,
"I've been a fucking Diva for 40 fucking years!" and when talking about
Britney Spears and her group she said "Take this, bitches!"
Anyway, this returned fantasy lover may cause a divorce if I'm not careful.
Here is a very cool Cher video:
