Folks,

Antoine Lewis "will be speaking on the history of public dining in Mumbai from the early 1800s to the present. The lecture will be held on the 28th of Feb at 7.30pm at Hotel Ritz, Churchgate."

Antoine knows the subject very well, and he is the editor of Savvy Cookbook. He kick-started the Bombay-On-The-Menu group with an expanded version of this lecture. I can vouch that it is amazing, interactive, fun, and gyaan-filled. I recommend this to anyone genuinely interesting in the food scene in Mumbai. Knowing the gang, a food outing, possibly one of many, is sure to follow.

P.S. Lord Eddd, CNB, and me first met around the BOTM workshop

Antoine's mail said attendance is free and no registration is needed - you just turn up there.

It is just a lecture so dinner is not included, however he said they'll most likely collect a bunch of enthu people and wander off to some interesting joint in the area.

If you (or anyone else does) go, please let us know what happened here.

I think the Rotary Club meeting was the lecture.

From Antoine's original annoucement which Shantanu was not lazy enough to cut and paste.

"I've been invited by the Rotary Club to give a lecture on food and I
will be speaking on the history of public dining in Mumbai from the
early 1800s to the present. The lecture will be held on the 28th of
Feb at 7.30pm at Hotel Ritz, Churchgate."

Suman - A Thousand Apologies!!! for being a lazy bum :-(. Mujhe muaf kar do.

As lazy moderator says, the lecture _was_ a Rotary event. I apologize profusely for this. I am assuming then that it did happen.

Dear All,

Rotary Club Weekly meetings are attended by members of the club whose meeting it is and by visiting Rotarians who wish to make up attendance for missing their own club meetings.

Sometimes the club invites guests to attend too.

The Speaker at a Rotary Meeting is generally allowed to speak for 20 minutes and a few minutes are permitted for discussion thereafter.

In some specific instances more than one Rotary Club may convene a joint meeting. In other instances Rotary Clubs organize meetings in collaboration with Non Rotary Organizations as is done on 5 March (to discuss the Union Budget Proposals) by two Rotary Clubs along with the Bombay Industries Association.

If the Rotary Club wishes to convert the meeting into a Public Meeting for all or many others to attend then the club makes appropriate announcements and issues wider invitations.

Sometimes the invited speaker may wish to bring in a guest or two. Generally (naturally too) the club welcomes such guests whether pre-announced or not. However it is odd for such a privilege to be considered open for invitation on a open forum or public domain.

If the club has private business to transact then such guests may have to sit out of the discussion. It is not awkward for either side to do this.

The costs of weekly Rotary meetings are borne by internal membership/club services funds. Sponsors are welcome to shoulder all or part of the burden. It is not uncommon to have a contributory snack or meal provided at Rotary Meetings. The tradition in such events is that the invitee's contribution is paid by the inviter. The speaker is always treated as a club guest.

I am sure that Rotarians present will throw more light or correct me if in error.

After a long winded discussion I summarize / paraphrase by adding that the small goof up in the invite being innocently posted here was unintended however wiser counsel will prevail in future.

Thank you for reading.

- Soeb
