SME's - Building Relations - What is important?Views: 1173

Amit Karia
I would like to discuss here -
1. What are the factors which restrict the growth of an SME?
2. What are the factors that help in building relationships - Everyone has a different approach and everyone has different Goals - Lets hear it?
3. What is it that each of us here are looking to achieve from the network and people around us - on an individual front and as a business entity?

Please do get active and provide the feedback as it will help each of us to move forward.

Thanks

Amit, thank you again for your initiative to bring SME's together.

I think in response to your first question - What are the factors which restrict the growth of an SME?

I believe often as SME's we act very independently as opposed to interdependently, we tend to think with our own technical mindset and not laterally like many true entrepreneurs. We tend to compete with one another instead of thinking abundantly and working cooperatively. Essentially we restrict the true potential of working as a collective and maximise the principles of creative cooperation which in practical terms means synergy.

Have a fantastic day and i look forward to hearing the responses and learning from other proactive business people.

kind regards
Shaun

What are the factors which restrict the growth of an SME?

The Strength of a chain is its weakest Link. I often think only our own boundaries restrict us Since we are Scared of the Obvious Possibilities lying outside

2. What are the factors that help in building relationships - Everyone has a different approach and everyone has different Goals - Lets hear it?

An Open Mind.
Sense of Sharing
Empathy

These would go in a long way to create and foster relationship

3. What is it that each of us here are looking to achieve from the network and people around us - on an individual front and as a business entity?

AM a first time to be entreprenuer and would like to hear from all those who have seen it done and it would take it as my own learnings

Prakash

i like your answers to the 2nd question - What are the factors that help in building relationships?

I think an open mind, willingness to share and empathy are imperative. I would also add a fourth to your answers and say a willingness to seek the win - win alternative otherwise choose to walk away. otherwise win - lose or lose - win become lose - lose situations in the end.

have a a great day and hope all is well in Chennai.

regards
Shaun

Shobha(usha) gowri
Hi all
My first posting.
I liked the pointed questions Amit asked and the fascinating responses.
My take:why are we still small-because we have never been trained or taught to think big.
Fear of failure rules large and therefore stepping out of our own restrictive circle is a freezing frightening prospect. Our other major thought has always been-what will others say/ think about me.We therefore taken the beaten path and jump on to bandwagons, undercut without realizing its also our head on the block.
So my take is -it is in our attitude. Also we have no societal support to try out innovative and creative ideas. So we need risk capital
Lastly we compete where we should collaborate.

Hi All

What is it that each of us here are looking to achieve from the network and people around us - on an individual front and as a business entity?

Being enterpreneurs sharing of knowledge/ideas is atmost important. Frequent interaction on different topics like Technology, Taxation, Marketing etc.... would be helpful in building our own organizations. For example i am from technical background probably my knowledge would be helpful in addressing some of your technical issues.

So being on network each one of us could be helpful to each other.

cheeers....

Hello ! I am Shabdhin, recently joined RYZE, and just entered EBEN. I am in these six networks.

Amit Karia let me join your bandwagon. ( Though the topic is already 9 months old – let me give it a new life). There are really some constructive minded people presenting their positive views on your 3 decisive Q’s [pointed, initiative to bring SME's together ] which if taken seriously and the “fascinating responses” put to use practically would fulfill Shobha(usha) gowri’s desire for SME’s to grow out of their old walking shoes and start running in their new flexible sporty “BIG“ shoes. I will take on the first question.
1) What are the factors which restrict the growth of an SME?
A) Shaun Cooper:
I agree with Shaun Cooper that SME’s act very independently as opposed to interdependently. The reason for this is, what I term it as, “Narrow Mentality” and “Meanness” of many people. Sorry, I am a little blunt, but these two factors are very prevalent all over.
Now, let me explain what I mean.
First the “Narrow Mentality”. By “Narrow Mentality” I mean the greedy attitude of “Eat All Share None”.
Second the “Meanness”. By “Meanness” I mean the reckless and spiteful approach of “ To hell with others, as long as I get my fill”.
I have personally seen this attitude in Chennai, Coimbatore and now in Bangalore. The same attitude prevails all over the globe. It has no boundaries or restrictions. This meanness & narrow minded approach creeps in the localized trades during bad times or due to sudden arrival of a mean new trader. I have seen it being carried over to the International Trade arena as well.
B) Prakash:
What Prakash means, I suppose, is that SME’s are afraid of exporting their products. Yes, if that is what he means, he is very right because most people are satisfied with their local trade and have imaginary and ill-informed notions about International Trade. A successful exporter always tells his friends ill about importers and how he is not able to raise money, rejections, non-availability of raw materials and skilled hands, etc.
C) Shobha(usha) gowri:
Yes Shobha(usha) gowri these petty mistakes need to be avoided [corrected] and as Prakash and Shaun Cooper put it ( modified a little by me ) also please read the last first …
4. Perseverance – Intelligent Hard Work
3. Will to Share - An Open Mind.
2. Understanding - Empathy
1. Courage & Desire- Willingness to seek the WIN – WIN Attitude [alternative ?]
Yes, if these four factors are applied, no doubt, a lasting relationship would be born !
The answers to the 2nd and 3rd questions should show how to get over this negative approach and speed forward to promoting from being Small / Medium to really BIG….. …LARGE.
By the way, I am willing to go all hog on the above broad minded principles. Any takers [importers]?
Thanks for your patient reading. Expect more constructive presentations.

Relationship building I agree is the most important factor today in marketing any product or service. With relationships , a client who is not wanting or needing a product may desire a product. With desire comes , buying a product! Now that is a sale!

Warm hugs to everyone! My first response @ EBEN, Hope I add more value to our lives and businesses...

MY OPINION:

1. What are the factors which restrict the growth of an SME?

I have had the privilege of coaching and playing the role of a consultant to quite a few SME's across various domains.

I believe the KEY difference is in the attitude and approach of the PROPRIETOR/owner/partners! Their inability to let go of things/beliefs that has made them reach their current success is the culprit most times.

As someone who needs to now expand and become an enterprise - you need ensure you become system driven ... break a lot of your old SUCCESSFUL beliefs as they may be the ones holding your growth back in your current environment! I am sure this is an interesting line of thought for your activated brain.... be honest to yourself... whats stopping you.... Really?

2. What are the factors that help in building relationships - Everyone has a different approach and everyone has different Goals - Lets hear it?

Relationships can be build by being truly concerned about the person/organisation. No amount of strategy can replace this - if your objective is to build lasting relationships in business or anyplace else! But how we express our true care/concern.... maybe that needs a little strategy and planning..

3. What is it that each of us here are looking to achieve from the network and people around us - on an individual front and as a business entity?

I do sincerely believe its about getting to know people, maybe being there at the right place, at the right time... All good things (including networking and knowing more and more personalities) needs a little exposure - and i sure hope EBEN is one such opportunity.

Thanks for taking the time to read my opinion.... would be more than happy to take any questions.... cheers

KrishnaChandar
