and was a hit ;-).
Take a cupful of Urad dal and add some tur dal to it (1/4 cup). Put in cooker with some haldi, water (a little more) and some oil (yes it floats on the water ;-)
Let the cooker whistle 10/12 times... When you open the cooker, the dal will be all kind of paste...
Ground some pepper and clove (lawang). Also some til (sesame). Fry these (without any oil), till the til becomes blackish/browninsh. Grind in mixie.
Now, cut an onion and tomato and some garlic. Take a pan and saute onion, tomato in it till onion is transparent. Add the above dal and some water... And then add the above masala (pepper etc..). Add a pinch of salt..
Bring it to a boil and eat with hot phulkas/rice...
(The pepper gives it a distinct flavour).

Hi,

Didn't quite follow that bit about "frying" cloves & other spices 'without oil' ?????

Hahaha....just joking...will surely try it this weekend....
