Felicia Slattery
Hi All!
I'm on vacation this week. So I thought I'd post a quick tip and then ask you for your best tips on communication in your business.

Here's mine:

When you plan to leave your office and regular routine, make sure your clients know about it and you set plans in place to keep communication open with your prospects who come in.

-If you won't be checking voice mail, change your message to reflect that with dates of when you will get back to callers.

-If you won't be checking email, set up an automatic response so people know about it and when they will hear from you.

-If you have any standing commitments, either get them covered or let the others know what you've done instead.

And enjoy your vacation!

I'm in the hills of Tennessee now at my parents'-in-law. They have the kids out for a walk so the house is quiet. 30 minutes of peace in the morning to answer my emails and keep my commitment to YOU is a vacation to me!

Yahoooo!!!!!

Your turn-- what's your tip? I'll check back tomorrow morning. Now I'm going to the stables for a horseback ride.

Warmly,
Felicia

Great tips, Felicia. I have one more to piggyback on your wisdom.

After you record your alternate outgoing message, put a reminder on your calendar, in your planner or on your taskbar to make sure that on the day you are set to return, you actually change your outgoing message back to normal. It is so frustrating to call someone on July 15th and get a message that says "Hi, this is Jane. I'll be out of the office from July 2nd through 8th, but will return calls when I return." You don't know whether the person stayed on vacation a week longer than planned, if they're ill, or if they just forgot to change the message! And I'm sure you would agree, Felicia, good communication is never ambiguous. :-)

Hello everyone!

I love the communication teachings of Marshall Rosenberg as taught in Compassionate Communication
(http://www.nvc.org)

The teachings are to really listen for the needs behind others communication so we can address issues. There is a list of Universal needs that we all have and when we can get in touch with that it make communication so much smoother. While we all have the same Universal needs, our strategies are what differ and that is where the conflict occurs...

Marshall uses these techniques with labor unions, school sytems native tribes and gangs in inner cities. Now the info is spreading and there are over 400 certified trainers sharing this technique to be used in many many ways!

I post a message on Compassionate Communication at my network from time to time.

Looking forward to reading your other posts!
