My Stand On This !Views: 795

Ginni Xanders - Xanders Design & Consulting
Hi All,

A Stand that i wish to take... "NO INFRASTRUCTURE - NO TAXES"

what does the legal community think about this ? what are the legal implications on this ? what all actions can be taken against an individual, a group, a community, a village ?

I plan to take this forward but wish to be informed on the consequences and the choices i can make, based on the implications...

any recommendations, anybody inspired to shoulder this ?

love n peace

I don't know about legal implications but I feel this is very much required to be done now.

The idea is brilliant...but the devil is in implementation which looks impossible.

Isn't the finance minister supposed to give an account of how tax money has been spent in parliament?
Maybe instead of not paying taxes if we generated more noise about wastage, misuse and losses (read bribery) of these funds it would have greater affect. Clearly identify culprits for the wastage and then ensure that the law of the land is applied to them.

Seceding from anything sounds easy and unfortunately all of us (myself very much included) are very lazy self centered people.

You are right! Vijay, No Taxes, no infrastructure!!!

But where is the infrastructure??? We are already paying hefty taxes, now please do not compare taxes in USA because before that we will have to look at their infrastructure too and infrastructure always comes first, taxes later:-)

We are missing the basics. Collection of taxes are intended, eversince government administration started, to pick up the extra money that rich people have to help the poor. Tax payers money does not belong to the taxpayers. It goes to the taxless poor. This applies to kingdom, dictatorship, democracy and also any other type of government.

Hey Ginni I guess you could take a leaf out of section 498A Activists,
'How these men fight is a lesson in “approach strategy”. They write blogs. They start websites and message boards. They have a forum. They hold meetings, training sessions and rallies. They go to the media. They listen, educate and inform. They send out fliers. They’ve set up helplines, use the RTI to gather information on convictions.'(thehindu)

They continuously & incessantly championed their cause

& their ativism finally forced the women and child development (WCD) to review section 498A. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/India/Govt_to_review_anti-dowry_law/rssarticleshow/3441846.cms

p.s.- I neither support nor condemn their cause...their brand of activism is a case study on how to make the authorities sit up & notice your concerns/issues.

Ritu,

Why not look at 497 and 376 before going to 498A.We still follow man made laws. A husband cannot be prosecuted for rape of his wife. The wife cannot take criminal action against her husband or the third party for adultery. I might be sent to prison if I say that matrimony is the root cause for adultery becoming an actionable crime.

Ritu has given some good references. If only there was a specific mechanism to highlight and follow up an issue to its logical conclusion.

Overall, this post reminds of the July floods in Bombay a couple of years ago after which a lot of citizens complained that Bombay gets nothing compared to what it contributes, stop paying taxes and all that. After that, all is forgotten-public memory being short and media moving on to the next story which implies no follow up.

Something needs to be done about the wrong kind of infrastructure as well. The local bank next to my house creates traffic blockages to such an extent that we have to start 20 minutes early at peak time. Does it take a supreme court judge to realize that banks without parking provision should simply not be allowed in residential colonies? If the basic laws are absurd, what is taxation going to do anyway?

Ginni to gather more shoulders for your cause perhaps you can 'Create online petition and gather thousands of signatures today. Promote your campaign and reach your audience. Make everyone's voice count for your global or local cause. This is the ancient approach to grassroots movements, utilizing the latest Web 2.0 technology.' These are the places you can check out

http://www.onlinepetition.com/
http://www.petitiononline.com/

http://www.petitionspot.com/

Maybe you can follow a middle path instead of the extreme stand 'no infrastructure,no taxes'...seeking accountability perhaps...but thats totally upto you...afterall its your cause & you can champion it the way you want.

Hiren, no media follow up is my biggest grouse against it...whenever I try to track any event, I invariably see that it has been dropped by media in the middle whenever something more sensational happens.

but is it only my fight ? are there no fellow beings who would love to shoulder me in this cause ?

will the infrastructure only be provided for me or utilized by me ?

looking for more shoulders...

Ginni,

I think we all face some problems but some problems bother some people more than others & we become passionate about it n it becomes our own cause....for instance I'm very much bothered by people not getting divorce in India even after a long battle & when God knows that they deserve one...but no sir,in India they (the judges) won't let you get divorced in peace..this problem annoys the hell out of me...n its my favorite cause to champion.

:-)
