Felicia Slattery | | Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. And as you may know, teen suicide prevention is the project I am working on as part of best-selling author and Internet marketer Ken McArthur's Impact Action Team. I want you to know there is something simple you can do to save a life. And it has to do with communication with others. (Pay attention because these same tips will help you make money in your business, too!)
In our technologically advanced society, people in general are being starved for individual personal human attention from those around them. And for teens who are especially in need of regular validation of their becoming selves they can quickly and easily become lost in the busy-ness of the adults around them and end up feeling hopeless like nobody cares. Of course we know family and friends, teachers and community DO care. But if we don't take the opportunity to show our concern for others, there are dire consequences at risk for some kids (and even adults, too!).
Our Impact Action Team's philosophy is GIVE to save lives:
G - Greet and meet: talk to others, smile, say hello, ask someone how they are doing
I - Involve yourself: find a cause you can support, volunteer, and pledge resources to (Find out more on this at http://www.SpeakUpSaveLives.org)
V - Validate others: tell others that they matter - especially family members and friends that you tend to see daily but may take for granted; give genuine complements
E - Empathize: be a listening ear, take time to be fully present, don't try to solve - just acknowledge someone's feelings or hurt
