Kurt Schweitzer | | Not long ago I started noticing that when I went to certain blog pages, a large portion of the page was obscured by an image that looked like a squared-off word bubble (like you might find in a comic strip).
I eventually noticed that most of the blogs in question were hosted on wordpress.com, and finally discovered that the bubble was from a "service" called Snap Shot.
Snap Shot is supposed to give you a preview of certain links whenever you hover your cursor over them. It also provides an advertising service that goes through the blog posts, recognizes key words, and converts them into links that will cause the ad to display when the link is hovered.
I normally use Firefox as my browser, but as a check I looked at a few of these blogs via Internet Explorer. IE did NOT give the hover action, but the made-up links still seemed to be there.
My guess is that these thing started appearing after I upgraded to Firefox 3.0.5. As a check I went and installed the Snap Shot plugin. That resulted in the bubble not appearing until I hovered a link.
It turns out that after installing the plugin I can now disable this "feature" and browse without the disruptions.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Scott Wolpow | | I have seen these and they annoy me. BTW Microsoft was going to make this a 'feature' of Word 2003. Happily the tons of hate mail stopped that.
