Anyone Been To or Hosted A "Windows 7" Party?Views: 565

I just saw the video on how to host a "Windows 7" party. Now, I am still using Windows Vista. I have no clue as to what Windows 7 can do that Windows Vista cannot. Having to compare the difference between Windows Vista and Windows XP, outside of visual graphics, I do not see much difference. But, having watched the "how to" video for hosting a Windows 7 party, I am definitely curious as to how those parties went.

Anyone been to a Windows 7 party? If you have not seen the party video, - check this out.

One is called Vista and one is Called 7. Of course will you trust a company that counts like this.

2, 3.1 , 3.11, 95, 98, ME, 2000, 2003, 2007, 7

It would concern me.

Scott,

What did you think of the video? I watched that video and something just did not feel right about it. I felt as though I was watching an infomerical that did not do anything. They did not show the product...at all. Why would anyone make a video and NOT at least show something about the product? Aren't Microsoft folks supposed to be SMART?

On the other hand, look at what Google is doing with Google Wave. No commercial that I am aware of. But, they have folks around the world eager to get an invitation just to beta test the product. Even Google admits Google Wave is not ready for prime time. But, from what I am hearing, more people are eager to try Google Wave than to purchase System 7. And, most people I have spoken with say Windows Vista is a disaster. And, as a Vista user, I must admit I am not too thrilled with Vista. I actually expected the replacement for Windows XP to be better than XP...not worse.

I did not watch it, have better things to do. In fact I will be spinning up a Linux Box this week and I plan to see if I can get my work done with it. I will still hold on to my XP as some apps are only on Windows.
The main purpose of the Linux box is to control all my servers I have, both my own and my clients. [10 Servers and growing].
>>Aren't Microsoft folks supposed to be SMART? Most likely it was done by a marketing person.

Google has yet to make money on anything but their core business. I have yet to see a purpose for Wave,
Vista is pure garbage and when you got it, many people told you to downgrade to XP, which you choose not to do.
Why would you expect improvements in Windows?

I charge extra tro deal with Vista.

Doing one in Seabrook Texas Tomorrow evening at Coffee Oasis. Whole party will be about how to "turn off" all the fancy clock-cycle eating features and performance tune the O/S to behave and look like Windows 2000 (best version, imho)...

It's promising to be a lot of fun.

Do I understand you correctly? You want to purchase the Windows 7 version and make it LOOK and act like Windows 2000? What is it about Windows XP and Vista you do not like?

He means he wants to turn off all the crap that starts up automatically when you turn the computer on. ie Wireless Zero Configuration is a waste if you do not use wireless. Or many programs like to sit idling by. If you look to the left of your on screen clock you will see them.

To look at what is in start up go to Start>run>type msconfig
One officlai Microsft article.

Can you make a cup of coffee before your PC turns on ? Easily control the programs that start with your computer by using Autoruns, a tiny app that does so much more. Download and click on the ‘Logon’ tab and check which programs you no longer need to start with your machine every time. Well documented with lots of options, try checking your start times before and after. (Run as Admin)

Great program.

Hi Gang,

What I *really* mean, is that Windows 7 is "bloatware" even still. Quite aside from the sloppy programming, the install out of the box is nearly unusable by XP users (most of my corporate clients) because of the illogical and non-intuitive user interface.

The lack of consistency between versions eats corporate helpdesks alive in needless calls and wasted resources. I am on a campaign in Houston to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

No one wins, not the vendor (especially not the vendor!) or the internal IT/IS crew when a piece of software requires a complete relearning of how it is to be used. IT folks are quite brilliant, but we soon discover that our users do not have the same mental bandwidth that we do, and it is in our best interests - job security, health and well being - to bear that in mind when rolling out anything that will affect 200-20,000 users at a time!

And now you know why I left the break/fix part of my business.
At least when a new version of a language comes out 90% of it remains the same.

Jeffrey,

In terms of being bloated sofware, would you say there is a big difference between the Windows OS and the Mac OS? I have no clue as I have never used a Mac. If Microosoft is the big monopoly giant and Apple is the small champ everyone seems to be cheering, why can't Microsoft take a hint from what Apple is doing?

Windows 7 is smaller than previous versions. One reason for the bloat is that there are far more devices for the PC platform than the Mac and Microsoft includes many drivers.
I just installed Mandiva, a linux flavor. It took under 20 minutes and one cd. If I need otehr drivers, it will seek it on the Internet.
Linux is truly the best OS out there.

Working on a Mac is like owning a car that has had it's hood welded shut.

No access to the major components, no way to set the timing, adjust the carb or anything that helps drive the unit.
