Hi All!
A group of us are planning to go to Rajasthan from 20th-28th Jan. The route being covered is Pune-Jaipur-Ajmer-Pushkar-Bhilwara-Chittorgarh-Nathdwara-Udaipur-Pune.

Would request any kind of info on which route to take (apart from what we have listed), how to travel(train/road/air), where to stay, renting car, costs, etc.
If we have missed out any place nearby that should be seen, please let me know that too.

And we are travelling on a very limited budget, so do suggest likewise.

Many thanks and cheers all!:)

ANIL RAJ LODHA
Hi :

You could also conside visiting Jodhpur and Jaisalmer instead of Bhilwara.. The route could be by road - Pune to Jaipur - Ajmer - Pushkar - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer - Ranakpur - Udaipur - Pune. or Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Nathdwara - Chitorgarg - Udaipur.

If by Air then Pune - Bombay - Jaipur . Then from Jaipur by road to Ajmer - Pushkar - Jodhpur - Jaisalmer - Ranakpur - Udaipur and u cld catch the flight back to Bombay from Udaipur.( Jet or Indian Airlines).

The Hotel depends on yr budget and we can arrange the car for u here in Rajasthan... Need to know how many pax and budget..For more info u cld speak to me on 09829650650.

hmm .. can you put down your prefs? like budgets, kind of place etc etc ..

Me and my friend, sort of backpacked through Rajasthan, so most of the times, we stayed at budget places at smaller towns but once in a while we would feel a little luxurious and go for a little more. Call it luck, but we found some amazing places.

at Jaisalmer: we stayed at a beautiful haveli, inside the fort. It was indeed one of the most beautiful places I have stayed in. 200 year old haveli, home cooked food, beautifully done rooms, super clean bathrooms and toilets. Beds were on rocky floor, everything very low, beautiful traditional decor, old sitouts with arches at balcony overlooking the Jain temples. Its run by a family and they are very friendly and helpful. I can get you the number and the person's name.

at Udaipur: we stayed right next to the lake, in another old place called Lake Palace. Nothing great, but clean rooms and toilets. But best part is that its cheap (think we paid 300) and accessible and everything close by. Right next to the place was this cultural center and we would sit on the rooftop by the lake and get to listen to some amazing classical music without having to pay :)

I have some friends at Rajasthan, so many places (like Jaipur, Jodhpur) we stayed at their houses :) .. worked out perfectly. No cost, great food, ready guides, travel .. tell you what, thats the best option :)

Shashi Dharan

Dear,
I just had a chance to look at the exchange or messages. As a travel agent, who has been there for almost 35 years, here is my opinion:

You have to options to reach udaipur.
1. drive to Ahmedabad via Mumbai and then proceed to Udaipur.
2. Fly down to Udaipur.. most ideal.

In Udaipur, you can visit the local sightseeing, Eklinji and Nagda and Nathdwara. Ideally two nights. Chittorgarh is a 2 hour jouney. You can return to Udaipur after visiting Chittorgarh. In this case, it should be 3 nights in Udaipur.

From Udaipur drive to Jodhpur, over the aravalli ranges. Your first stop will be Ranakpur.. 85 kms away.. a nice two and half hour drive.Ranakpur has beautiful white marble temples. If you wish to stop at this place, go to kumbhalgarh. or you can have lunch at this place and drive further to Jodhpur.. 4 hrs.

Jodhpur is a 2 night stopover. You can visit the Mehrangarh fort and the Cenotops. In the afternoon, you can drive to the Bishnoi villages. Jodhpur has of late become the centre for antique furnitures.

Drive down from Jodhpur to Ajmer.. 4 hrs. Another half an hour on the other side of the hillock is Pushkar. Spend a night here.

Next day, you can drive to Ajmer, visit the Dargah and then drive to Jaipur. With the new highways, the distance is now 2 and half hours only.

Jaipur is a two night stopover. Visit the Amber fort, City Palace and Jantar Mantar. Jaipur is famous for the textiles, finished jewelleries, cut stones, durries, carpets, jaipur juthas etc.

Take the train from Jaipur to Pune or fly down to Mumbai and connect.

This time of the year, it is very cold. Ideal to get in, see a few places and return, rather than going for a long tour of Rajasthan.

Take a vehicle from Udaipur upto Jaipur to be with you through out the journey. A non air conditioned vehicle should be alright in the winter season..

Plenty of hotels in all these places. Dont go for cheap hotels. Spend around 1000 to 1500 per room, which will give you great satisfaction and value for money with break fast and taxes included.

Your duration of 20th till 28th can easily be covered in this programme. Dont make the mistake of spending one night each city and covering many places.

Kind regards
Shashi.

Shashi,

I am planning to drive down from Bombay and your information will be very useful.

Just one question at the moment though.

Why is the 85 kms from Udaipur to Ranakpur a two and half hour drive? Guess there might be ghats but so long for just 85 kms??

Any catch??

I can figure out that you like driving. The road from
Udaipur to Jodhpur is over the Aravalli Mountain ranges.
It is a lovely drive, green and cool over the mountains.
That is the reason it takes 2 and half hours for the 85
kms.

regards
Shashi.

Shashi,

Like driving?? I looooove driving. Especially on highways :)

Just did a 2000 km trip:
Bombay - Panchgani - Mahabaleshwar - Goa - Bombay

And a smaller 1000 km trip to Surat and back.

Well, as long as the roads between Udiapur and Ranakpur are good, its OK. Just wanted to check that.

Lovemarks,

Will be taking the NH8.

Hi All! Thanks again for the help and info!:)
Just to update, we have organised our hotels and to and fro from Pune itself.
Once there, will decide the internal travel. Anil, might take up your offer and call Raju (which we didn't earlier.) then, because once there, we'll get a better picture.
